Quote from Mike on February 12, 2020, 7:04 pmI am a 32yo male with a history with Sibo, lyme, mold illness over the last 7 years. Threw a lot of different things at the wall over the years and got my health back to about 90% last year. Carnivore diet had the most impact by far and have been eating that way for 18 months. Everything got a lot a better. I started introducing and liver and egg yolks and some inflammation in hips came back and a few other minor things. I didn't think much of it and thought I was coming down from a honeymoon phase with diet. A few months ago I added CLO and everything went to hell. I took me a while to figure out, even though I keep track of all diet/supplements closely, due to the 36 hour lag in symptoms and kept trying to re-introduce it. Brutal flu-like symptoms, deep bone pains, muscle twitching, could hardly drive at night. Had to be the CLO and luckily found this little corning of the internet, thanks for your work Grant.
I have been zero VA for 1.5 months. Seeing some improvements across the board. Sleeping amazing and waking up refreshed even though I have been really phlegmy over the duration. Vision feeling a little better at night, bone pains gone and muscle twitching as well for the most part. Annoying thing is I get "sick" almost every other week and have been congested or sore throat nearly the whole time. I go from feeling decent to these "flu" symptoms within an hour, quite strange. Heart starts to race and this weird flushing feeling and then I'm "sick". Definitely feels like my liver dumping something and I never get fully sick - just feels like somewhere on the spectrum of getting sick and feeling like I'm on the mend.
Sticking to carnivore diet for this one - fatty cuts of meat and bone broth. I take activated charcoal (has always helped me over the years) and magnesium glycinate. Also taking apolactoferrin to try and lower my iron - iron was creeping up over the years and spiked up when tested it after CLO introduction. Will be giving blood every two months. Infared sauna and cold showers every morning and play hockey and lift weights when feeling decent.
Will keep you guys posted

Thanks for sharing your story. It is consistent with what some other people have reported when adding liver into their otherwise carnivore diet. I’d sure like to warn people that liver is not a meat, and is not safe.

Quote from Mike on March 20, 2020, 11:12 amQuick update:
The flu-like symptoms are close to completely gone now. Overall feeling much better but still feels like a ways to go. Now I am getting these very minor eczema rashes in random spots on my body and dry skin patches on my triceps. Havent had skin issues like this since grade school. Focused on getting lots of sun now so hopefully that will accelerate the process. Only have given blood once so far as this pandemic has scared me off for the time being.

Quote from Mike on June 30, 2020, 8:42 pmBeen a total of 6 months zero vit A/ carnivore and definitely on a pretty steady uptrend in health.
Skin issues, although randomly flared, completely gone. Back used to be very pimply (not cystic) now amazingly smooth.
Feel way more mobility n hip/groin area along with upper back/neck. Much lees tension in those areas overall.
In general;more energy, less brain fog, more drive and less inflammation
Observations:
Been going nuts with sun and definitely stirs up detox symptoms, takes a day or two to go to baseline
Alcohol: Probably have been over consuming as it kicks me out of detox and is quite practical. Although I think it just delays the response as the post "hangover" is worse than the hangover.
Movement is key for me when feeling rough with detox. I will limp to the gym and have an amazing workout (after a sluggish first 10 mins) when feeling completely brutal! Same goes with walks. For me, exercise is the detox killer.
Have given blood three times now and just did my bloodwork. Iron went from high 400s to 270. Cholesterol went from "the highest I've ever seen" (to quote my MD) to just above range. Everything else tested looked fine.
Staying carnviore, will continue to donate blood when I can. Not really taking part in the community but want to thank you guys and Grant for all their work. Hopefully my terse posts help someone in their journey

Quote from Mike on November 14, 2020, 9:02 pmI have definitely hit some sort of detox setback . Got really bad in the middle of October - aprox 10 months in. Was during one of the more healthier stretches in terms of lifestyle; hadn't had a drink in weeks and lots of exercise, meditation, and sleep.
Happened a few days after giving blood for the 5th time this year. Hit hard and fast and was a really rough 10 days or so but I am nearly back to baseline pre 'setback'.
The brain fog has cleared up nearly 100% since that event but now my body is really sore and I keep tweaking my back, shoulders, and hips; feels like things are shifting around or something.

Quote from Mike on February 19, 2021, 8:11 pmJust over 13 months in. Not a whole lot to report in terms of progress. Body has felt decent and stopped getting these minor and frequent injuries. Got covid about a month ago; had a really uncomfortable first night with chills, sweats, and brutal stabbing pains in my legs. The leg pains faded away after a few days and just felt like a minor cold. Never had a cough or breathing difficulties but lost taste and smell. After 2 weeks, as soon as I was 'free' again, went on a very physically demanding snowmobiling trip. Learning how to snowmobile in deep powder at 8000ft just after covid probably wasn't the best decision I've made. After the trip, I seemed to have regressed with the stabbing leg pain and general covid malaise coming back. Still dont feel like I'm back to baseline since covid but I dont feel terrible by any means, it just lingers. Smell and taste also still come and go.

Quote from tim on February 20, 2021, 1:38 amAccutane can cause loss of smell and taste so the transient Hypervitaminosis A that occurs during COVID could be partly or wholly responsible for that. Glad you had more than a year of a low vA diet under your belt before you got the virus, Hypervitaminosis A makes it a lot worse.

Quote from Mike on July 15, 2021, 2:06 pmAround 18 months now and still having detox symptoms come and go. Decided to test eating 4 egg yolks to see what happens and that night and the following day were the roughest in months. I had also been eating a bit of smoked salmon and didnt realize that there is likely more VA in it than the package states. Sticking to fatty cuts of meat and collagen powder for a while now.
Did Genova metabolomix lab with some strange results. Was low on B6, B7, B9, B12 and borderline on B1. The lab and my doctor were baffled as they knew I had been strict carnivore for years

Quote from lil chick on July 15, 2021, 2:44 pmI do think detoxing VA burns up B's. I don't take them everyday tho, and I take low amounts.
