Ankle edema / fatigue / chills / skin issues

I am pretty sure I damaged my liver by eating stupid amounts of animal liver (chicken, pork, and beef) and eggs and egg yolks for the past year or so.

One of the many symptoms I developed from this was edema in my feet. The left foot was worse than the right (typical for liver damage according to Dr. Google).

I've been now on the Vitamin A detox for around 7 days. But only the past 5 days have I limited my VA intake to not more than 7 ug / less than 100 IU per day.

I've been also taking 15 mg of lactoferrin every day for the past 5 days.

I've also added 1/4 tsp of charcoal per day the past few days.

In the attached foto you can see on the left side my left foot before I started the detox.
On the right side the picture I took today. There is just a 12 days difference between them. The effect was visible within 48 hours after going on less than 100 IU of VA.

I currently eat mostly brown or white rice or white rice pasta and lamb (has zero VA). Before that I ate chicken instead of the lamb. Today, I added a bit of lean beef.

Another thing which improved quickly was the insane cold feeling I had developed. I would lie in bed and shiver from chills. I would wear 2 sweaters, 2 layers of pajama type pants, socks, and two layers of covers when going to sleep and I would STILL feel crazy cold. Sometimes I would add a thick bathrobe on top of it all - and I would still feel cold!

Within 3 days of going low Vit A the shivers mostly stopped. I now sleep without socks and with just one sweater.

The sensation of having a dry rock-like thing instead of a tongue in my mouth (insane thirst) when waking up, also is mostly gone. This is something that Grant reported, too.

A sandpaper like sensation on my skin is also getting better very quickly (although adding apple cider vinegar or lemon juice to my meals has helped greatly with it, interestingly enough. Would like to know why that is. Does vinegar displace or somehow flush out VA?)

So far, so good... I'm grateful for Grant and Dr. Smith who have helped me to finally figure it out. But I understand that recovery will take time ... Fingers crossed ...

Update day 15 on the low Vitamin A diet:

My ankle edema is now essentially gone.
Chills / shivers are gone. I mean completely gone. I now regularly walk around without socks, although it's getting pretty cold here, I live in the Northern hemisphere, Europe.
Fatigue is much improved.
The sandpaper like sensation on my skin on my face is also much improved, hardly there.
Most of the days I stay in the under 100 IU of VA per day, some days I am at 0.
I mostly eat lamb, also good amounts of fat with the lamb. I have a craving for it. I notice that my urine turns a more yellow color after eating a fatty meal. Maybe it's the VA being purged from the liver.
What is still there is bloating after a meal which I keep in check with apple cider vinegar.
I have the sensation that ACV helps with bile flow.
What concerns me is that my Raynaud's syndrome, which I had under control for over 10 years while paleo/keto/carnivore, is flaring up ever since I started eating white rice again.
I think I will go back to eating carnivore in the nearest future, just this time around I will concentrate on muscle meat only, no more liver or eggs for me EVER IN MY LIFE.

Attached an updated pic of my left ankle, taken today after standing at my desk for 2 hours or more.
No sign of edema.

@paola microbiome is huge for human health and probiotic bacteria needs fiber. Carnivore diet is like drugs from doctors. It doesn't address the cause of your issues and just masks the symptoms.. You don't see 80-90 yo healthy people walking around that were eating just meat and fat.. But you see plenty of plant based older people.. I believe it's ideal diet for us. Whole food plants maybe like 70-80% of calories and the rest animal foods and macros high carb, lower fat and lower protein. I am trying to be open minded and so far this looks like "ideal human diet"... It's just not fun to train your gut and microbiome so you can eat high fiber plant based diet without any issues..

@jiri - where do you source your veges from? I would assume this part is the most imporant consideration?

@kiero I still eat low vit A diet so I don't eat vegetables maybe onions, potatoes, cucumbers. My "plants" are mostly starches, legumes and some fruit. No I don't buy organic. Here organic or "bio" doesn't mean it's 100% chemicals free so it's waste of money..
