Since you mentioned lifting weights I would like to ask you, and anyone else who lifts. How has performance in the gym changed since starting the vit-A diet? Any change in strength, hypertrophy, stamina, recovery etc.

I want to wait a full 12 months low VA to judge, but so far some real positives;  stronger, better recovery, leaning out, don't see any negatives yet.

YH - just like you, my chronic back/spine pain is gone and posture is naturaly straight. I had never heard of anyone sharing this weird unexplained pain until you mentioned yours some time back. Congratulations on such fantastic results, the improved eyesight is really fascinating, it is just like Grant 🙂

If I may ask a question: after how long time did you notice significant skin improvements? I still struggle with horrible all-over dryness/flaking, miserable feet and intermittent lip cracking/flaking. I am pretty sure this is due to pretty intense detoxification though, and patience is a virtue.

Yea, the back pain was really interesting to observe. It felt like muscles/tissue were being released. I still am surprised to find new tensions that are loosening up, even at month 7.

Skin improvements were very gradual. With regards to skin, the detox cycle I experienced started with mild flakiness and dryness, followed by new skin. I had dandruff that resolved itself after severely limiting dairy products. The redness around my eyebrows, nose ridges and lips resolved at about month 4. It did return a little after I introduced more dairy. As I reduced dairy, the redness went away, but much more quickly than before. The calluses on my feet and hands has taken the most time. I'd say it will take at least a year to fully heal that.

Are you consuming any dairy products?

In the beginning, I was a lot more fatigued at the gym. I trained maybe once a week because I was too tired. My performance has changed completely. Before this diet, I was following a ray peat diet. I did have explosive strength for heavy lifts, but miserable endurance. I'd also found myself breathless and struggling to keep up with much older people.

At about month 2, I started jogging, stretching, and boxing. What I found was that cardio endurance increased significantly. I had way better control of breath, and could exercise much longer with less stress. I was still smoking cigarettes at this time too.

I started lifting more weights at month 3. My lifts were difficult at first, but then became easier. My muscles are able to relax much more easily after I lift. Since my posture also improved, I'm holding way less tension when i exercise, which is improving my performance. I am lifting about the same weight as before, but I am not suffering through the routine as I did before.

My coordination has also improved a lot. I'm noticing this a lot when I play soccer. I feel sharp when I dribble, when before I felt slow.

Also, I forgot to add supplements.

Vitamin C a few times a month. I find I don't really need it anymore.

Vitamin K at the beginning but not anymore.

Vitamin E once a week.

for the diet-I also drink apple juice, eat apples, pears, berry preserves, almonds, hazelnuts, chestnuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, pomegranate seeds and juice, some beets, and ginger.

Thanks for the write-up. Amazing. I am also 7 months into low/no Vit A. Similar improvements. I am happy for us!

Me too!

That’s so wonderful to read, congrats YH!

I have noticed many of the same improvements. Working long hours is pretty effortless these days which is so nice to experience for the first time in my life. I can fast out of necessity with out any issues as well. It feels like my metabolism is quite flexible- that’s the best I can describe it!

Wishing you the best, Bella

Thank you! I think the metabolic flexibility is reflecting the body getting stronger! It took me a few months to believe the positive changes because I didn't believe it was possible after so many failed dietary experiments. This has probably been the easiest diet adjustment I have done because of these results.

Hi Yh,  I am especially excited about the posture changes as I figure that may taker longer than other symptoms. I have also noticed I don't need to visit the osteopath since starting low VA. The increased awareness and empathy sound like an awesome bonus. I appreciate the variety of changes that you have shared. Thanks for sharing.

I'm glad to read that so many people are experiencing similar improvements. The posture changes were actually one of the first things I experienced. Within a month, back and spine pain reduced significantly, and were gone by month 2. I started noticing an increase in height in comparison to my dad, who is "technically" the same height as me. Additionally, the tissue on the right side of my lower back used to be hollow and weak in comparison to my left. It has now completely filled out and resembles the other side.

Thanks for replying YH 🙂 i was very strict with dairy, butter as well. I have loosened up a bit regarding butter, as in I will eat cake with butter if I bake or is treated by a friend. Might be once a week. I have not noticed any worse effect by this, the intensity of the skin dryness/flakiness comes and goes except for feet which are constantly awful. Past days my stomach has started peeling/flaking though but I am not 100% confident it us related to butter, it might be as I did have it at a friend's house. It has only been powdery dry previously 🤔 if I wear anything black/dark colors my clothes get white 😂

What helped me the most with dandruff and itchy skin was significantly increasing meat intake. When I eat about a pound of beef, turkey, lamb,or chicken, I find my detox symptoms are lower. It is also speeding up the repair of the calluses on my heels. If my meat intake drops too low for a few days, I start to get dry skin. I’m hoping my needs decrease as I get healthier.

Wow that is really interesting YH! Thanks for sharing! I have been craving meat insanely for several weeks now and eat at least a pound a day and now that you say (write) it, i think I itch more as well when i eat less protein... Have decided to go strict butter free again for a period just in case.  I really should get my own thread instead of spamming others 😂

I’m so happy for you @yh!!! 😁😁😁 Some of the improvements you’ve experienced are things I never would’ve guessed would, or even could, change.

Having had depression in the past, I’ve always felt that something physical must be responsible for it, so to read that vitamin A actually triggers intrusive thoughts for you is remarkable. And it’s exciting, too, to think that this might be able to help others who are suffering!

I'm glad to read that so many people are experiencing similar improvements. The posture changes were actually one of the first things I experienced. Within a month, back and spine pain reduced significantly, and were gone by month 2. I started noticing an increase in height in comparison to my dad, who is "technically" the same height as me. I was going to say that I was amazed that your back problems corrected in only seven months, but it happened in TWO?!?! 😮 Wow! It’s at an unbelievable level of amazing at this point. (Not that I think you’re lying. 😆 I don’t.)

And for you as well, @liz?! That’s wonderful. 😃 Interesting about the meat cravings and skin connection.

The back pain was the first thing to reduce. The spinal pain was a relatively recent development after eating a significant amount of dairy, tomatoes, stone fruits, and oranges last spring. The reduction in pain is not surprising since it (thankfully) never turned into something chronic.

The improvements in posture followed the reduction in pain. I don't know how else to describe it, but the muscle tissue around my body feels like it is becoming more supple, and less stiff. I think my back is still healing, but I am at a point where I can hike for hours and not feel any pain besides for natural fatigue.

It's definitely surprising about the depression. Avoiding vitamin A feels like turning on a light switch back on. The improvements in mood were the most consistent aspect of this diet, and made it so easy to stick to. I really do hope the benefits continue, but so far I am yet to see any negatives or signs of "vitamin A deficiency."
