Need some help with thriving

Hi Audrey,

I'm so sorry you have dizziness and vertigo. I have many food intolerances and I'm also gluten intolerant, probably brought on by vitamin A toxicity. I had a bout of BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) a few months ago and I'm quite sure it was from food intolerance. I am very sensitive to gluten and eventually I figured out it included all the "gluten free" grains as well, even white rice. Right before my bout of BPPV I had been experimenting and eating white rice every day, and the vertigo seemed to linger until I cut out the rice. I haven't had any vertigo problems since.  I eat beef for protein and for carbohydrates I eat pealed pears and celery root.

Any food intolerance can cause inflammation, and in your case it may manifest as vertigo. You might try cutting out salicylates, grains, beans, legumes, nightshades and nuts for a while and see how you do.  I know it's hard to have such a limited diet, but if you feel better it's worth it!

@audrey  I'm very sorry to hear about your vertigo and dizziness.  I can attest that it is very difficult to achieve a sense of well-being with nearly constant vertigo and dizziness.  Sounds as though that's where you are.

Vertigo is one of the most difficult issues for me, along with eyesight problems (double and blurry vision and some sort of drawn feeling in the eyes), and pressure on the brain.  I am currently unable to lie down -- I sleep sitting up in a chair. I have had several periods, one for over a year, where I could not turn my head at all and was sick many times each week.

I am 5+ months on just beef and rice and now some raisins and applesauce and lemonade. I have come to understand that it is the pressure on my brain that is causing the vertigo.  I also have tinnitus and profound high frequency hearing loss. I believe all of this is from VA now and/or possibly other toxins in plants as I also practiced a near vegetarian diet my whole life.

I'm currently noting the pressure on my brain with different foods I am trying.  I had some really good progress at the beginning but I similarly descended into some interesting and somewhat difficult detox symptoms along with an increase in cranial pressure and worsening eyesight again.

With one setback I started trying different foods.  I noticed that since I had been on a very limited diet for the last 5 months, I could identify how different new foods made me feel.  Surprisingly I found that pineapple either fresh or juice made my head pressure extreme!  Wow!  It was very unexpected--the raisins and lemonade and applesauce did not do that. I threw away a bottle of pineapple juice.  It was almost scary.  I had eaten and loved pineapple many many times before in my life.

So one thought I have, is that there may be a food you are still consuming that is not agreeing with you.

Just a thought.

For the vertigo, you have probably tried all the medications...I am not wanting to take any medication of any kind, but the only thing I have ever found that helps with my vertigo is prednisone.  Sometimes it can help a lot or just a little.

I had always assumed this was working inflammation in my neck and pinched nerve situation. However, now I wonder if the prednisone is working on the inflammation in the brain for me??

So, I'm giving myself a year to be patient, and watch the pressure in the head, hoping it will ease, and with it ease the vertigo. The pressure in my head has gone through some real changes in the past few weeks.  Not all feeling good, but changes...so something is happening.

I don't think my vertigo is as bad right now as yours, and it sounds like you are really suffering. I wish I had some suggestions or help..

I did see some vertigo glasses that were well-reviewed on an ad.  I'll look for them and see if I can forward a link.

Also, in the first few weeks of the diet, where I was experiencing some real positive changes, my dizziness did not improve per se, but my balance did, noticeably.  I found I could stand on one foot comfortably...very strange!

I hope you will feel better very soon!  Hang in there!!

My heart goes out to you Sarah, thank you for sharing and I’m grateful for the link.

I find it interesting that you assumed the inflammation was a pinched nerve in your neck… I went that route as well and it seemed to be ruled out in my case. Severe neck pain and right arm pain as well as tinnitus were some of my earliest symptoms. I also wonder now if B6 toxicity played a part, along with A and oxalate toxicity in my bucket overflowing.

The one thing that improved my symptoms over the months was cycling off and on benzos, which was my last resort and helped me to keep working at my job. Thankfully I am off them now, but they did improve the dizziness and panic during the worst periods. It’s almost as if an old head injury I had years ago has been triggered and the panic attacks are more like going into shock. It’s weird, because a lot of my symptoms remind me of that awful night. And it wouldn’t surprise me if old trauma is being triggered in all of this. Maybe information for another thread.

I hope you continue to feel better and better!

Audrey

Wow, that is interesting re the white rice. I will keep experimenting and try eliminating rice as well as black beans. Potatoes I only eat if I have a craving which isn't often, though I do crave potato chips... maybe for the salt? I appreciate you sharing MaryAnn, thank you.

Very interesting! Thanks

Hi @audrey ...so sorry I thought I had left a response after your last message (I'm a forum novice!).  How are things going these days with you?  I'm hoping you have some improvement in vertigo, etc..!

It's interesting that you bring up your old head injury. I think cranial pressure (or lack thereof in important places), is the source of my vertigo. As I mentioned, I used to think it was from my neck and the various problems I have had there, but now, after being on the diet with much lower toxins, I can tell it's triggered, or exacerbated by cranial pressure and changes.  I'm hopeful with more time passing and perhaps a few strategies that this can improve. It has changed since I've been on the diet, but not really improved yet. I feel less pressure on the brain, but also more like my brain is sloshing around in my head.

Hoping you're experiencing some relief from your vertigo!

Sarah

Hi @sarah4 Thanks for your reply. I find it interesting that we share/have shared a lot of similar symptoms... I am pleased to report that recently, for 3-4 days, I felt almost like normal, hardly any dizziness at all that I almost didn't even realise it! This is the first time in almost 1 1/2 I've experienced this. Today my head feels less good, so does my right eye nerve (I also get this drawn feeling) but I am feeling more positive in trusting the the ebb and flow of this detox now. Also, I notice my orange feet aren't orange anymore. I hope for you that you can also begin to feel some real improvement!
