Niacin flush backfire - maybe explained

PreviousPage 2 of 2

Okay, I tried taking 100mg niacin tablet after meals for some days and I was enjoying the increased circulation so I began to sometimes take a second tablet once the first flush had finished it's course. After some days I noticed the skin on the palms of my hands was very dry. And then it was even more coarse.

I don't normally use any lotions on my hands but I tried a thick cream of castor oil + zinc on them. It soaked right up but the dryness continued. There was also a period of low humidity locally so not sure the skin issue was related to the niacin. But I did back off and stop the niacin supplement for a while.

Interestingly, now when I eat foods that are a bit higher in niacin sometimes I will get a mild flush effect now. It doesn't feel like I'm toxic or anything like that. In fact in the last day I've gone back to taking a single niacin tablet after breakfast. Feels like there is something helpful going on.

Another finding, Psyllium husk is around 90mg of Niacin per serving!

Explains why it impacts some. It definitely impacted me!

I have not been able to find any information about psyllium containing niacin. Could you please provide a source?
