Nine Year Update
Quote from Liz on September 10, 2023, 1:43 pm@orion I have a fraction of a lactase pill with my whey. If you're super sensitive it can help also If isolate gives you lactose issues. I dunno If one can find hydrolysate anymore, it is the "cleanest" whey, but the taste is quite horrible due to the short amino acids so I cannot recommend it.

Quote from Jiří on September 10, 2023, 9:47 pm@liz of course you can buy hydrolysate whey protein. But it is denatured and there are no longer this benefitial proteins like lactoferrin etc.. Taking hydro whey protein is basically the same thing like when you take EAA supplement (Essential Amino Acids) Like I said high quality whey protein has only trace amount of lactose and with whey protein you don't want to consume big dose per serving. Even 20-30g is plenty. It is better to take 3 times a day 20-30g than 60-90g at once..

Quote from Liz on September 10, 2023, 10:52 pmI wasn't sure since I haven't seen in it in my local sports stores In like 20 years. But I guess everything can be found online 🤷♀️ I remember it being popular back in the day for a short while for being the fastest whey and therefore the most optimal after exercise (and def most expensive) but it tasted like shit so I never bought it again, despite it being virtually lactose free. I was extemely lactose sensitive back then, I reacted to isolate. So for me hydrolysate would have been an alternative. But I solved it with small fractions of lactase pills/tablets. Monohydrate and even isolate can be troublesome for very sensitive people, hence my comment. (And short peptides would have been the correct term, not short AA, my appoligies)

Quote from Jiří on September 10, 2023, 11:57 pm@liz yes sports people still take hydro whey after training. I never tried it during my 10 years of bodybuilding. I was like if it tastes horrible and it is more expensive than regular whey protein I wouldn't drink it long term anyway so why try it.. 🙂 Like you say it makes only sense for people who have issues with regular whey protein..

Then the ready accessible amino acids help bile production. I find organic grass fed whey protein much more helpful for me than meat and it helps with my bile production a lot too. The only issue I have with it is its very high in glutamic acid (can convert into glutamate) so that can make me a bit autistic at times but its great for energy, exercise performance and gut health.
Hm I even take L glutamine.. Like 5g 3x a day..
Be careful with that stuff if you are waking up feeling rough or feeling fogged the whole time then it’s possible the l glutamine could be causing that.
