Patent -- Therapy for retinoid pathogenesis

I was searching for connections of VA toxicity to choline and found this:

It might be a good idea to search through the patents database for other similar patents.

I've added lecithin to my supplement regime.

Interesting. Garrett Smith doesn’t recommend PC as he has some animal research suggesting that it increases vA storage. My understanding is that it favours the retinyl ester form & not the excretion from the body that we are hoping for. I was taking phosphatidyl serine (which helped anxiety) but stopped in case it was putting the vA back into storage & opposing my vA detox. I don’t know whether it was but I’ve got super wary of supplements after the vA poisoning episode & prefer foods.

I was looking for the research I mentioned above but couldn’t find but came across this piece on the patent:

Found the reference on PC/lecithin:

Another great find, Tim!! I'll be reintroducing lecithin as well.  I'll consider methionine, carnitine (recently dropped from my supplements) and others noted in the articles too.

JAJ, thanks for sharing your thoughts and Dr. Smith's link.  I've not had time to keep up with Smith's board.  Hope to return in due time.

All the best!

Let’s hope it’s a positive not a negative. Be interesting to know. I have no doubt that I have a degree of fatty liver & would obviously like to return this to normal.

@jaj

Thanks for that, didn't realise Smith had already posted about the patent.

I don't doubt there are studies showing that but I came across a study from the 50s that found the exact opposite, that choline deficient animals had lower serum VA but higher liver VA.

From what I understand about choline I'm not sure how having adequate amounts of it would make VA toxicity worse. It's essentially a B vitamin and it seems they all work in concert to protect against VA toxicity.

Supplementing with large amounts of single B vitamins can create deficiencies of the other B vitamins, that could create VA toxicity issues.

A low VA diet that contains plenty of legumes and meats is not that low in choline but would likely be under the RDA. Egg yolks are the best source of choline, I consume about 1 per day.

I've come to believe that some B vitamins such as riboflavin are likely deficient in most people with VA toxicity despite adequate intake... It's likely a similar case with choline.

@dswl

Thanks DSWL 🙂

I won't be supplementing with those amino acids but I was excited to see biotin in the patent also.
