Pea Protein Powder
Quote from Karen on May 8, 2019, 6:57 pmI fear I already know the answer, but looking for something definitive. Adding in some protein powder to my diet would make my life easier. Does anyone know if the carotene is somehow depleted during whatever processing is done that turns the peas into the protein powder?

Quote from romaine on May 9, 2019, 9:38 amIn a thread some months ago, there was a short discussion about pea protein. I couldn't find that thread (I didn't look in each thread, just the titles) but if I remember correctly that the consensus was that it probably isn't a good idea to consume it if the pea protein is green while trying to detox vitamin A and carotenoids. Maybe someone else will remember that thread better than me.

I asked opinions on pea protein because it was an ingredient in a granola I had bought. I can’t remember the thread though.

Quote from Karen on May 9, 2019, 6:10 pmThanks for the responses. I searched for "granola" and found the thread you mentioned, Bella. I guess there's no real way to know but probably best to avoid to be on the safe side. I could order some and just see what color it is. If it's almost a cream color, maybe there really isn't much beta carotene left in it. Some of the products I've found are made with yellow pea protein-- yellow peas have less carotene than green peas. But maybe still not a good idea.

I didn't notice anything negative from the granola. 🙂
