peeling lips/topical exposures

Page 1 of 2Next

Hi All, I was wondering if anyone else has suspected that their lips peel in response to the *topical* exposure to VA.

I was doing a splash of whole, raw milk in my coffee, but noticed that on mornings when I instead went with black coffee the peeling was less.  Also, that if I cleaned my lips after the milk exposure the peeling was less.

The peeling lips have been a problem for me for at least 5 years, and such a mystery!  I've occasionally met others with peeling lips and they were just as mystified.

I have noticed in the past that my lips peel less in summer-- perhaps both the humidity and the sun exposure.

I can't help but wonder if all the peeling that takes place on a VA-toxic body... is another way the body tries to rid itself of VA.

Of course, many of us wear balms and lipsticks and those might also contain VA ingredients!  So I've been putting nothing on my lips for a few days.

What are we all using on our lips?  A bit of coconut oil?

My peeling lips got better after just a day or two on low A. It is one of the classic symptoms of too much vit. A.

My lips have gotten more pink and less dry on low A.  They used to be very dark and I used chapstick many times during the day.  I still use chapstick classic but not as often.  It has plenty of chemical ingredients but I don’t see anything related to vitamin A.  The dark lips were a mystery to me but not now that I am reading more about vitamin A.

I still get peeling lips when in a detox cycle or if eating something with A in it, butter included. The skin around my nails flake too. It doesnt take much for me to react. I dont use anything though, just wait it out and gnaw the flakes off to get them off faster. It takes 1-2 days to get better again.

I am going to try to kick the chapstick habit based on this.  My husband never uses chapstick and he doesn’t have the overload of VA symptoms like I do.  It isn’t a horrible addiction but I have wondered why I had to use it so often throughout the day.  Thanks for this comment.

I’ve gone 24 hours without chapstick or any other lip covering.  I have reached for it but remembered my goal and didn’t use it.  My lips are a little wrinkly but they feel fine otherwise.  I will save the chapstick for truly dry times.  It is very humid here now so I shouldn’t need it for awhile.  And I will be able to see any VA effects to them.

Good experiment Elo!  I haven't been using my lip balm either.  I'm trying not to use much of anything to keep things simple.  I've only been on the diet a few weeks and my lips are still peeling.  I've been making lots of mistakes on the diet so that could be it.  haha...  But I also think that I might be many, many years into A toxicity thing (if this theory is right).   I'm not adverse to the thought that some of my problems might be sticky or even forever.   Take a type 1 diabetic (autoimmune diabetes).  Even if he did the diet perfectly, would his pancreas just magically fix?    I doubt it would ever be 100% fixed.  ?

You are very welcome, Elo. I hope you can use your lips as an indicator too and one day you wont have a dry issue anymore 🙂

It has been one week and I am doing great.  I had some real dry lips on days 3 and 4 but on the 5th day it wasn’t noticeable.  I never thought I could go without chapstick.  I used to carry it all my waking hours but not now.  Things seem to be getting better and better.  A coworker who was sitting close to me today told me I had no wrinkles under my eyes.  I disagree but she obviously thought I looked pretty good.

Neat!

In solidarity with you I haven't used anything either, but I'm still peeling.

I think the lips peel because the tissues are becoming inflexible.  I notice it more and more on myself, that as this (whatever it is) the various tissues become inflexible.  Sometimes I feel that my whole face needs a good stretch (so much of my face is involved now), and what I do is (don't let anyone see you doing this)  I pretend that I'm screaming/shouting the vowels in order to stretch the face.  A!  E!  etc.  I think this can also stop a headache that is trying to be.

My son has noticed that my posture is getting a little off, and I think it is the same thing.  I need to constantly throw my shoulders back and pull my chin in...and it feels like a stretch to do it.   One toe isn't able to bend over any more (perhaps future gout)  I can't sit "indian style" (one hip being too inflexible suddenly).  My hands don't want to be stretched out flat.  etc.
