Question for anyone that follows Karen Hurd’s work
Quote from Jiří on April 28, 2023, 11:54 pm@liz caffeine is not the same as sugar. Sugar are calories=energy for the body. Caffeine just stimulates adrenaline.. So I don't like the idea sugar is like drugs. Sugar is macronutrient. The problem is that when you are low in micronutrients you should eat micronutrient rich foods and not eating just sugar which gives you energy so you will deplete even more micronutrients. That is the problem in adrenal fatigue... The problem with this modern life style is that it is nonstop high stress for the body. So when people can't just drop everything and just relax somewhere they have to keep pushing the body with stimulants and sugar.. I completely understand that. If I would have kids I would be energy drink, coffee drinker for sure. Maybe even smoker.. Simply it's a good idea to see sugar as tool same with stimulants like coffee. When you need to keep pushing your body like for example you need to drive a car a long time it is a good idea to drink some energy drinks full of sugar, caffeine etc.. But when you can relax and you don't have to push your body it's best to just eat balanced meals and naturally if the body needs rest you will be tired and you should rest.. But like I said people with jobs, family don't have any time to rest basically.. That's why I will never have kids. I simply don't have that level of energy that is needed for that.. I could run on stimulants and sugar next 5 maybe 10 years, but that would be my end..

Also, contact her and ask her about it if it doesn'tmake sense. She has a master of science in biochemistry so I am sure she can give a detailed explanation about her stand. The only way to find something out for sure is to try it out. Buy a program and do it low A style which is totally doable. Try it strict for 3 months, then add sugar back in and see what happens.
I used to have the opinion that sugar lowers cortisol and stress but have had to re-evaluate that opinion since the effect I get from sugar does not match the theoretical knowledge I had of it, no matter how much I wanted it to. Sugar boosts me and gives me so much energy, no matter how exhausted I am it jolts me back to life (probably the same effect coffe has on coffee drinkers), providing energy I don't have, and keeping it in my diet (also as fruit) has probably been very contraproductive considering my chronic stress and trauma, burning the candle at both ends so to speak. Starch doesn't have that effect in me at all. Starch keeps my brain calm and my body relaxed.
Edit: the reason I say buy her program is because it is not as easy as just adding beans. Many do that, the read some blog on the internet based on second hand information, add beans, feel like shit and say "well bean protocol didn't work for me ao it must be BS". If one have digestive issues one cannot have beans and veggies at first. She will help finding the right protocol for one's issues and afterwards for life be available to help tweak diet based on symptoms and answer all questions one might have.
Her prices are crazy.

I agree. I just bit the bullet because I’m willing to pay whatever to fix my situation. Not sure I can afford another course though.
One thing I will say is that once you’ve purchased a course you can consult with her via email indefinitely which the prices may factor in.
@woodcutting
I’m pretty sure Karen allows egg consumption which I think is odd given how hard she rallies against saturated fat.

Quote from Jiří on November 11, 2024, 10:03 amI am watching Ray Peat forum and some people there are going nuts on "Karen Hurd diet" . Some guy showed his diet and it was like 2 times a day 2 tbsp of peanut butter, a lot of almonds, cashews etc.. Obviously they never heard about oxalates or copper overload.. Eating nothing but high oxalate/copper foods all day every day heh..

Karen eats a cup of nuts every night before bed. But she also eats a serving of meat with every meal to balance out the copper.
