question

garret smith comments that thin people have to take in more fat. Do you know why I weigh 52 kg but I can't gain weight, do I have to eat more fat?

Sometimes it seems to me that some people just don't gain weight.

Hey Pepito,

it goes to calories.  when cutting out foods that underweight people depend on, those calories need to keep coming in.  if we exclude some foods over VA content, how do we make up the difference?  coming to nutritiondetective.com from paleo/keto diet last 10 years made transition to low VA required transition back to eating carbs.  needed to do that anyway to increase fiber intake to remove the toxic bile before colon recycled it back to the liver.  it is not always needed to keep fat intake up.  just an option Garrett puts out for those of us having harder time keeping weight on.  just keep in mind that incresed fat intake increases bile production as well as induces bile dumps.  if able to maintain weight without it, might be good to lay off fat intake awhile.  meanwhile, choose fats more wisely.  beef tallow from grass finished beef is much easier than butter.  dairy fat will necessarily have more VA from fortified dairy.  pork fat is always higher in VA.  good luck and keep reading.  Garrett and Grant are grocking it.
