Reason to ask why

Why it is important to ask why - not rude - important.

I learned it can be good to add this to the why question:

"Why?   I'm not criticizing you, I'm just curious as to your thinking process on this."

It's probably helped me to not get clobbered.

Guess I do not mind the attempted clobberings.   It goes to assessing intentions.  If you take the question as hostile I guess you were probably hostile to begin with.  It is after all only a question.

Besides if I have to explain that I am not criticizing, then it is already too late and denying that I am doing it only convinces people that it was my attempt to do that to begin with.  Maybe it is a gender think.  Ask a guy in a gym or a dojo that same question.  Angry guys get angry.  Calm guys start crazy intelligent conversations and have better questions.   We all have different stories and reasons.  And they are all good.

Important caveat.  Do not attempt this while feeling angry.  And be ready for whatever.  And for sure do not get angry with whatever comes.
