Red eye

PreviousPage 2 of 2

I’ve now had a whole week with no red eye so I’m hoping (touch wood) that I’ve got some understanding of what is going on.

I think post covid increased inflammation is driving the issue. Covid has put me much nearer to a threshold that triggers the red eye. I’m also moving house so this stress could be another factor for pushing me closer to my symptom threshold.

It seems to be set off by small amounts of alcohol and oxidised PUFAs, both highly inflammatory. I’ve also noticed an association with eating foods high in lutein. Avoiding these things has led to improvement.

Also I’ve followed the eyelid hygiene protocols for ocular rosacea/MGD.

I’ve added back in betaine-HCl to increase stomach acid. I know low stomach acid is an issue for me and it seems to be associated with rosacea.

I’ve also taken charcoal (just 450mg capsule) morning and evening, every day. I correlated not taking charcoal to worsening symptoms. I’ve also avoided constipation. These two things could reduce LPS leaking through gut (leaky gut) which is related to inflammation. Also keeping well hydrated.

Together these things seem to have helped. Not sure if one thing most important or a combination of measures. Hopefully my post covid inflammation will slowly subside. I’ve now got a bad back!! Probably inflammation related but house moving stress also in the mix for that I suspect (and maybe for eye)!! Probably more toxicity routed through kidneys not helping this. Sort one thing get another 🙄

Edit: Now I think about it stress, inflammation and covid all increase cholestasis. This means more toxicity getting into blood. This is Garrett Smith’s model of ill health. It could well fit the picture here. Increasing hydration could be an important step to get rid of toxicity via kidneys. I think alcohol & PUFAs are also on the cholestasis list! Maybe this is the unifying theory for my post covid troubles.

Hi @jaj, I think being sick stirs things up wicked bad.   I actually think the old saw "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" when it comes to being sick.  Being sick stirs things up, you suffer, and afterwards I do think you have lowered your VA.  This is my guess.

My nose was all healed (thanks to good?bad?  vaseline) and time off of VA.  I got a simple cold and the sore interior of the nose thing wanted to come back.  I had to beat it back down with a week of care, and even a dab of over the counter antibiotic ointment when I thought impetigo might be rearing it's nasty head.   And now my nose is back to baseline.

My tinnitus also seemed louder after the cold.  Rosacea redder.

Hopefully your eyes will calm down.

I think you are right @lil-chick. Covid seems to be a particularly bad stirrer. I now read in my alternative health (IHCAN) magazine that covid reactivates dormant EBV. All in all I could have done without catching it just before my house move. The covid & stress combo has made me sick again. All sorts of symptoms are re-emerging. Now a bad back that I haven’t had since 2019. I’m a bit fed up tbh. Let’s hope on the other side is lowered vA.

Hi @jaj, Moving your house can definitely bring out the back problems!  Like you should almost just expect it, plan it in your calendar, LOL.   I have to try to remind myself to warm up my stiff muscles all the time after resting and before doing anything.  Just the other day I got up from the computer and put a piece of wood on the fire and OUCH.    I'm glad no one sees my muscle warming because it can look pretty weird.   When my back is out and I've been resting, I even sort of sway in my seat before I try to rise.

It's these darn stiff muscles.
