Rosacea and Seb derm
Quote from Guest on December 12, 2018, 9:28 pmHi guys,
I just went through this entire blog. Makes a lot to me. Background: 32 years old male. I used to work out (bodybuilding) and follow diet aimed at muscle gains. I had very good results and the more I read about diets I started adding things like sweet potatoes and kale very regularly ( every meal almost). At age 26, I got really bad redness Rosacea on my cheeks. They were shot red. Somehow they calmed down after a year. My diet was more varied but I still used foods high in vitamin but intersting note I had dropped dairy when I saw the improvement.
Fast forward to a couple of years ago. I had to take antibiotics and for some reason my cheeks flared up. In an attempt to heal them I tried every diet under the sun: first I went vegan for a couple of months. The result was no change in condition but lost too much muscles. What follow is a journey into the rabbit hole of the world of diets. I started following paleo and western price. Eating raw liver and organs. I started getting a patch of what I eventually learn to be Seb derm on my beard. I persist with that I have now cut out most of my carbs. I miserable and the Seb derm is getting worse. I look into ray peat diet. I started eating more carbs along of course with liver which I never stopped and carrots. Now I was getting costochondritis intense rib cage pain.
I switch back, now I am following aajonus vonderplanitz and eating all raw diet. Raw organs, fish, meats, raw dairy. I am much worse now and I get a torn rotator ciff with no reason.
Nothing makes sense to me. I take an allergy test: I am allergic to everything. How I never had those allergies before. I watch all those carnivores healing on YouTube but I am not. This was last summer. I go tanning outside thinking uvb should definetly help Seb derm which is my main issue now. But I am also smart (?) enough to read that it depletes your vitamin a levels. I make sure to eat liver before and after tanning. No improvement in fact its worse.
I hop on Candida diet and cleansing. I do. A month full of every damn anti bacterial/fungal/viral whatever you can find. I even try turpentine. Then I start blasting my system with high dose probiotics and this where I was last week after a month of that and no improvement.
Throughout this year the only constant was my high consumption of liver since the youtube world is in love with that shit.
I am gonna give this vitamin a depletion diet my best shot. Keep in mind that I had tried a lot of cremes and potions none of which work. I am not going to be using anything external.

Quote from Guest on December 12, 2018, 9:39 pmMy main condition now is more so the Seb derm on my beard and a patch on the back of scalp that's spreading. Its gotten more and more itchy and burning feeling. The skin is very dry and itchy reminds of how it people who took accutane looked like. I have scaly red patches on my beard. When I eat it burns and itches more its torture.
Here is my diet for this experiment:
Staples:
White rice
Mushrooms: mainly enoki
Grass fed beef and hymalian salt
Egg white and oatmeal and raw honey
White potato and artichoke ( not everyday but they seem to be low enough in VA)
Sauerkraut (???)
Cauliflower daily
Quinoa (maybe later ?)
I am thinking of adding some fruits like banana, apple or raisin. Not sure which or how often. For first week I won't have any.
Supplements : I still want to build muscles. Of course I used to take cod liver oil too I am throwing that out lol.
Creatine, collagen powder ( instead of the whey), sea algues green powder ( I am might cancel this it says it has 8% va so that's a lot), camu camu powder and absorbic acid (vit c), boron and fulvuc acid, Ashwaganda, coffee and amino acids, taurine, magnisium, b6, and zinc. I might take some charcoal here and there. I am also taking a probiotic.
Let's see how it goes

Quote from Liz on December 12, 2018, 11:41 pmHi guest.
I had eczema as well. My trigger is any form of caseine but w/ no allergy for it. I am about 4 weeks into depletion diet. Week one eczema got 90% better and stopped itching. Then it cracked (litterally) up. It, and skin overall, has been intermittently itching ever since. It is a detox thing, so dont freak out if you notice the same 🙂
I would skip the greens powder at least for the first 3 months. The more strict you are the faster you will get well again. Also make sure your vit E supplement does not have a strong red/orange/yellow or brown color. That could indicate it comes from red palm oil which is very high in vit A
I wish you all the best . Please update, reading about other's jorneys through this is very interesting 😀

Hi Guest.
No, please don't take the extra vitamin E, or be extremely careful with it. Yes, on one hand it is reported to increase the release of stored vit A from the liver. But, that rate may exceed your body's abilitiy to detoxify it.
Also, a lot of vitamin E suppliments is sourced from red palm oil. Red palm oil is also extremely high in beta-carotenes and vitamin A too. I'd be very skeptical of any vitamin E supplement. Rather, it would be far safer to get it from basic food sources, say such as olive oil, or even almonds.
I totally agree with dropping the vitamin D.

Quote from Guest on December 13, 2018, 8:30 pmThanks Grant. My vitamin E is made from soybeans. It's the best I could find. I am sure that contains a tiny bit of vitamin a so I won't be using it regularly maybe twice a week.
It's funny this blog makes me think of all the people I know that never try to be healthy. I have friends, family and coworkers who's diet consist of pretty much of white pasta, rice or potatoes some meat and some junk food like burger coffee and sugar who have absolutely flawless skin. They don't seem to have any health problem either. Meanwhile the people I see at health food stores buying exotic plants and the latest supplements always have health issues.
Even at 26 I though it was just me aging when my skin started turning for the worse. Red and inflamed. I never suspected my diet of sweet potatoes kale and a million supplement. I see the trend now and hopefully this can be fixed. Last year I feel like I did some real damage with the liver and dairy which resulting in major inflammation in my face.
Diet today:
2 scoops oatmeal with raw honey and
2 pieces of bacon ( shows little vit a on nutrition data but I might replace it for ham.. Not sure if the fat tissue contain VA that's not detected or something)
Collagen powder shake with camu camu
White rice beef and tiny amount of sauerkraut and mushrooms and one Artichoke. I think I will drop the sauerkraut or limit it. I am very disappointed with the whole microbiome theory. It's been so long I have been trying to replenish my 'good' bacteria with kefir, probiotics and sauerkraut all at very high doses but not even an ounce of improvement in my face. I dont think it works.
Dinner: rice beef and cauliflower and one potato.
I drank water throughout the night. I had a glass of vodka before bed. I pride myself on never drinking but having read that alcohol depletes VA I am willing to pay o try that if only once in a while.
Things I want to try but I need opinions on that have low VA:
Turmeric
Pomegranate / cranberry juice
Black beans

I think pork fat contains either a metabolite of vA (retinoic acid?) that is often not stated when looking for the nutritional content or has other compounds that make the vA worse. Regardless of the reason, I read to not to eat pork on a low vA diet.

Quote from Orion on December 14, 2018, 6:01 amReported that pigs store vitamin A like humans, in liver and fat, so avoiding pork for short term when beginning detox is probably a must.

Quote from somuch4food on December 14, 2018, 6:21 amI'd say replacing bacon with ham wouldn't change much of anything. Both are fat cuts of pork. If you feel like you are making progress, I think they are ok. If you're stuck, that would be the first thing I try to cut or swap for leaner cuts.
(I've eaten ham all week and haven't noticed any worsening of symptoms.)
Turmeric might be ok since it gets its color from curcumin (I saw a post saying it's a carotenoid, but it's only one research paper). Actually, most spices should be ok if used in small amounts.
Cranberry juice is listed as Ok in a low carotene lutein-free diet.
Black beans are a staple of Grant's diet.
