Quote from Даниил on December 8, 2021, 2:22 pm"It has also been noted that the loss of the ability to synthesize ascorbate strikingly parallels the inability to break down uric acid, also a characteristic of primates. Uric acid and ascorbate are both strong reducing agents. This has led to the suggestion that, in higher primates, uric acid has taken over some of the functions of ascorbate.[174]

Quote from Даниил on December 13, 2021, 2:26 am@ggenereux2014 have you seen this study? They allegedly proved here that scurvy can be cured with just 10 mg of ascorbic acid. What was going on here: they first put people on a diet mainly of casein and gave them multivitamin supplements; two of the six subjects, among other things, developed mental disorders and two dropped out of the experiment; after 100 days they put them on a diet low in vitamin A (consisting of soy protein, egg whites and cereals) and simultaneously began to give vitamin C supplements.
I think that they cannot cause scurvy in the laboratory conditions of a diet balanced in vitamins and minerals even without vitamin C, and they can only poison the subjects with vitamin A.

Let's see: 5000 IU of vit A, + vit E + vit D + casein + copper + aluminum... gee what could possibly be wrong with that diet?
Just nuts.
Thanks

I am even more surprised that THIS has been reviewed and WIKIPEDIA refers to THIS. It's just crazy fake science.

Quote from Даниил on December 19, 2021, 5:34 pmAlthough I may be starting to understand something. Or maybe not. Statin preparations inhibit ALDH, but also inhibit cholesterol synthesis. Things like vitamin C, caffeine, vitamin D increases progesterone. And lower RA levels. Progesterone increases RBP and you safely remove VA.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9761376/
Could it be that at some point of time overproduction of RA (or taking an excess of RA) kills progesterone, and you can no longer remove VA through RBP, and you have to go through all the circles of hell..?
The same goes for statins, it seems they reduce RA and it lovers symptoms, and it could allow you to produce more progesterone... but... oops... You don't have cholesterol. The same goes for antidepressants and serotonin, which suppresses the production of steroids.
So VC may be useful, but it is probably better to take a RXR agonist such as ivermectin or olmesatran (if those have no side effects, especially on androgens).
If I'm wrong about something, then you can consider it the "fruit of a sick brain"
Add: although it would be better to have an agonist of RAR, since the activation of RAR also hits RXR. But I can't find anything available except synthetic rethinoids

Quote from Ourania on December 19, 2021, 10:43 pmI suffered from hypervitaminosis A for all my childhood and adolescence. At age 17 I started taking a contraceptive pill, all progesterone (lynestrenol). It was a new life!!! At the time I thought escaping the symptoms was due to a happy sex-life.
After menopause at 54 it all came back creepingly. Of course I had stopped the pill, and kept accumulating more vA by reverting to my childhood diet that made me feel temporarily better.
It all fits with the theory.

Quote from Orion on December 20, 2021, 7:28 am@daniil I have been thinking alot about progesterone lately, and how it is supposed to be the most protective hormone. Wondering if taking small mg doses a few times a week would be protective against VA and ease its removal, or just slow things down.

I think progesterone should be useful in the long run, but if I understand the mechanisms correctly, it won't give near the benefits that a RAR agonist could give, given that a significant part of the symptoms are caused by RA.
Perhaps it would be useful to try a combination of agonist RAR + progesterone. It should be something magical.
