Don't forget that table sugar is half fructose.   But it is nicely (?) divorced from problematic food chemicals I suppose.

I find the desire for sugar very interesting.  Some people have a huge desire for it.  Others have a small desire for it, others zero. The desire for it can build over time, similarly to the way the desire for alcohol can build over time.  It's interesting.

A smart old traditional guy that I know set me straight once, making me realize that starches really ARE different from sugars (even though I suppose you would tell me that starches break down into sugars).

My guess is that Matt Stone has some interesting things to say about metabolism (I don't follow him closely, perhaps he's changed his course).  I would not surprised that people who have strong urges for sugar might be using it to "over feed" a slow metabolism to speed it up.   People with already fast metabolism maybe are the ones longing for salty snacks instead.  Hubs and I break down this way on snacks and metabolisms.

My long-lived ancestors came from a family where frosting was scraped onto birthday cakes very sparingly and yet their sugar intake wasn't zero either.  Not zero, not generous.

I suppose sugar runs down b-vities and for that alone it should be limited.

I'm sorry, but I'm already sick when I hear these biased phrases about "processed foods" etc. I constantly see these same phrases in studies and "healthy" magazines that say that you should eat colorful vegetables. In the light of the VA theory, we really need to reconsider everything. Read the groups of people with adrenal problems, they literally can't live without sugar, and this is a harmful food? I suspect that sugar is just a detoxification accelerator, but I haven't delved into this topic much.

Regarding fructose and liver obesity - why don't monkeys suffer from this? Fructorians? Applesauce and orange juice are not just sugar, they are also serotoninogenic pectin, carotenoids, soluble fiber, industrial chemicals... And apples have a lot of fructose to glucose, excess fructose can simply not be absorbed and feed bacteria in the intestines. Personally, I often notice flatulence after apples.

I think not moving is bad anyway, regardless of whether you eat sugar or starch.

Excess sugar is never going to be good for the many reasons talked about above. I think it’s one of many factors that are stressing the liver. However, I don’t think it’s the main driver of poor health, i think toxicity is the driver. VA toxicity is a major factor but there are other toxicities too that are problematic for the liver. The issue with vA is that everyone thinks it’s really good (someone said a foe disguised as a friend). We wouldn’t take a multivitamin with ‘3000iu of Mercury’!! Once the liver becomes compromised the vA accumulates even quicker.

there exists a lot of toxicity associated with different vitamins, at least with A D E some Bs (google)

as for sugar (carbs/glucose) the demands from the body differs depending on many complex factors(could go as high as 2000..3000 extra calories from the base) but it feels like the majority is chronic glucose under consumers since being addicts to low carb diets probably due to raised ketones, cortisol, adiponectin anti infl. effects...

Oral administration of fructose was found to exert the most pronounced effect. It increased the rate of blood alcohol clearance by about 100%. Orally administered alanine was found to be least effective in increasing the rate of blood alcohol clearance after blood alcohol had reached peak levels, perhaps due that poor absorption of alanine. Fructose administration partially prevented the ethanol-mediated increase inlactate/pyruvate and beta-hydroxybutyrate/acetoacetate in the blood. Fructose exerted the most pronounced antiketogenic effect and the levels of circulating free fatty acids decreased in the 24-hour fasted patients upon administration of fructose with ethanol compared to ethanol alone. Oral administrations of fructose, glucose, sucrose or alanine did not significantly change the levels of acetaldehyde in the blood.
