Supplement Recommendations
Quote from Trista on December 22, 2018, 1:07 pmI would like to start taking vitamin C, but I'm concerned about some of the filler ingredients I've seen while browsing. What various vitamins have you all had success with, and do you recommend any particular brands?

I take a sodium ascorbate - Now brand. No fillers. Taking it 2-3 times daily to bowel tolerance.
I also make my own Magnesium Oil spray and take Magnesium ascorbate - Source natural brand. I started with the Mg Ascorbate to figure out what my body needed and then added in the sodium ascorbate. I am finding I need less Magnesium since going low VA.
I am inbetween Dr G visits so keeping it simple till I see him again

Quote from Guest on December 22, 2018, 6:12 pmI wouldn't supplement without testing except for the C and charcoal though the amounts you listed for those seem high.  Zinc is commonly low in people but you should probably get zinc and copper blood panels before supplementing those.  I have low zinc and high copper (blood panels) so I take a zinc supplement.  I also take vitamin C about 1 to 2 grams a day. And K2 because my bones and teeth are out of wack.

Quote from DareToBeNaive on December 22, 2018, 6:23 pmWhy would you take vitamin C or any other supplement? Our body doesn't need any of that. It may very well be the case that vitamin C requirements are very small or even absent(not essential) when we are not poisoning ourselves with healthy foods. VitC is just another antioxidant to protect the plant and according to "nutritionists" to nullify other toxic compounds in it when we are eating them(not sure if it actually does so when ingested ). I also think that E and K requirements are also questionable when we are not poisoning ourselves with toxin A. And also as Grant pointed out , that line of thinking that we are deficient in something actually brought us here in the first place. People are so obsessed with the concepts of healthy foods , natural foods etc. There is no such thing as unnatural . It is actually an endless (money making) entertainment that's ruining people's health.

Quote from Guest on December 22, 2018, 7:35 pmI get what you are saying and yes blind faith in the supplement industry and the many fad diets along with the government intervention got us here. However, the last point you make contradicts your premise. It doesn't matter what are original natural requirements are. Maybe the carnivores are right and we are supposed to be hunting and eating full animals and drinking their blood. Maybe the vegans are right and we should all be eating fruits and vegetables. Trying to figure out what's natural is futile otherwise we could all be naked somewhere along the equator line getting optimal sunshine with no man made alterations.
The thing we are human and we constantly alter our environment. If there is good evidence behind an "unnatural man made" supplement then it just might be beneficial. Of course, always do your do diligence and understand you are always taking a risk. Even vitamin C that's recommended by Garret and has tons of positive studies behind could be "exposed" in the future.
I feel nutrition and human body are such complex topics that we will never know for sure. The positive reports behind any supplement may very well be placebo. Do your own research and understand in the end we are all gambling.
But I agree unnatural does mean bad if it were then we should all take out clothes off lol

Vitamin C is definitely required on a regular VA deficient diet. I had deficiency symptoms earlier and they were cured by taking vitamin C. That's not necessary though, there are very low VA foods with plenty of vitamin C like rutabaga for example.

Quote from Trista on December 23, 2018, 9:17 pmThank you all for your input. I've read from several sources that vitamin C is protective during vit A detox. So I was planning to take it from that angle rather than deficiency. I did attempt to take vitamin C that I already had with poor results on my breastfeeding daughter. Either it has something in it that is carotenoid or it is causing us to detox too quickly resulting in really bad eczema flare. I'm crossing it off the list for now, but I may revisit it in the future.

Quote from Liz on December 23, 2018, 11:19 pmI take NAC and Meriva 500-SF (both from thorne) for my endonetriosis. Meriva is the curcummin extract used in studies. Else, taurine (i have noticed a good effect on my digestion, been taking it on and off for a couple of years) and regular ascorbic acid when I remember it. I do not have any C deficiency symtoms but studies have shown that over 700mg C per day can increase progesterone so I try to lay above that to balance my estrogen, but am not anal about it.
I have basically quit everything, even my serrapeptase and other things supposedly good for endo. Nothing have helped anyway and I have only gotten worse. This I now believe is because of my "healthy" diet. But I am starting to questioning the "need for vitamins as well.
I have a B stress complex that I dont really dare taking anymore since it is containing methylated b12 and b6 amd i am very sensitive towards most things, as in I notice effect from lower doses than most, which could indicate I am an over methylator.. Anyway, yeah that is my stack. Which is nothing compared to what I have been taking for years and years. đŸ˜‚
I might add zinc as I have been notoriously low even when taking supps. Should probably check my bloodwork before I do though.

Quote from Doublecapricorn on December 24, 2018, 5:10 amLiz,You may want to strongly consider iodine for your endometriosis. I highly recommend the book The Iodine Crisis by Lynne Farrow. If I recall correctly, I do believe there are some success stories regarding this. Good luck!Quote from Liz on December 23, 2018, 11:19 pmI take NAC and Meriva 500-SF (both from thorne) for my endonetriosis. Meriva is the curcummin extract used in studies.
