Tasty Beans
Quote from tim on June 13, 2020, 1:48 amPretty straightforward but I thought I would share it since it's a tasty way to have beans. Mushrooms are a good addition, I eat them every day, they really boost one's riboflavin intake.
Tasty Beans:
4 rashers of streaky bacon
1 onion
5 mushrooms
4 cloves of garlic
cumin
dried mixed herbs
olive oil
1 can baked beansChop bacon, onion, mushrooms and garlic. Turn on gas and add some olive oil to pot. Add chopped ingredients to pot. Saute with a wooden spoon. Add cumin and herbs shortly before turning off the gas. Drain most of the tomato sauce from can of beans and add beans. Stir and serve.

Quote from lil chick on June 13, 2020, 2:18 pmThat is similar to what I serve. I don't put bacon, but I saute the onions in bacon grease. I usually add a bit of ground beef or any leftover meats we have. I use black beans, rather than baked. There is no tomato sauce, so I throw in the bean liquid. I use cayenne to make it spicy-ish, although probably not what anyone would call "heat". I only put one clove of garlic, that's pretty garlicky LOL.
I serve it with white rice, pasta or white-corn muffins, or serve with white corn chips.
Occasionally when we have wanted more of a "baked bean" flavor (for instance, when serving with hot dogs), I have added molasses and a bit of mustard.

Sounds good. Only thing I'm not sure about is molasses, can't stand the flavour normally. Yeah soaking beans and cooking them up yourself is probably ideal.
