@dswl Hi!   So should we all be taking taurine?

  1. Janelle, thank  you for tweaking the link!!

lil  chick,  I presently take taurine.  Before beginning low  vitA, several   years ago, I took it, but was likely too toxic to notice a benefit.  I agree with Grant in that eating low  vitamin A is the best treatment.   I recently learned that the reason cats  benefit from taurine  is because  it detoxifies vitamin A in cat’s  retinas.  I had understood that taurine prevented blindness in cars, but was  not aware of  toxic vitamin A causing the blindness.

I have searched for the taurine/cats article but  have not  found it.  Thought I  had saved it, but in my haste , I did not.  Will continue searching.

In researching suggested dosage, I found that 3000 IU seems to be a common dosage.  A few days ago I  supplemented more than this  (dividing throughout the  day).  Surprisingly, upon awakening the next  morning, my  eyes were filled with matter.    This has not occurred  in  my eyes for many years.

What am I thinking?  Grams not IU!!

Thank  you, Arios,  for  posting the links.  I think that the first  link was the one I had seen,  although I thought its location  was else  wheee.

In Oursnia’s Log, post #114,  she describes her positive  use of taurine.

Reading and  posting  on the forum is quite difficult for me with my very low vision.   Hopefully I’ll not make too many blunders;  thanks for  understanding.
