Taurine

 I have searched for the taurine/cats article but  have not  found it.  Thought I  had saved it, but in my haste , I did not.  Will continue searching.

 In researching suggested dosage, I found that 3000 IU seems to be a common dosage.  A few days ago I  supplemented more than this  (dividing throughout the  day).  Surprisingly, upon awakening the next  morning, my  eyes were filled with matter.    This has not occurred  in  my eyes for many years.

It' s happening the same to me.

i've been on a quasi-zero A diet ( ketogenic/carnivore )  diet for one year, my head and face dermatitis is almost gone, and in the last few months i take a mix of (2 grams) taurine, glycine,  mg ,d3k2,  zinc and ashwagandha  by night  . my eyes are full of crap since, sometimes itchy and teary. i also started to see some floaters in my right eye.    even tho its kinda bothersome,  my gut feeling tells me its for  good.

Oxalate dumping?

My guess is that like riccardo and dwl said it is likely the vit a dumping back into the body out of the liver, which makes it show up in weird places. My acne has flared up something fierce the last few weeks, and I noticed it especially after days where I donate plasma. Those days I workout and have alcohol, which both dump vit a from the liver. Some goes into the plasma bottle but I guess some will get trapped in skin. Grant had something about acne being just trapped vit a years ago in an early blog post.

 

I also noticed on days I don't workout or donate plasma, but have a beer or two, I will flare up more than usual. Effect is a couple days long. In my pre zero vit a diet days I used to ascribe the acne to insulin and the gluten in beer or other sugars. But I now am having wholly different experiences. By separating out vit a containing foods and bevs, I dont have all the negative symptoms associated with the things that use to cause me distress. Wheat rice, beer, sugar, all can be sourced without vitamin a (if you take the care) and so I get not attendant sleepiness, apathy, depression, soreness, or especially, weight gain.

 

It is still strange to see that I can eat my fill of grains, sugar, and beer, and not gain a single pound. It might retard fat loss but the overall trend is still undeniably downwards. I will keep an eye on my acne as it hopefully gets better. Interestingly, my eye dryness/redness has gone away almost entirely the last two weeks. The first four weeks of no vitamin a it was really bad every morning. I think I might see about some taurine supplements to see if that brings the bad feeling back or the acne worse. For now, I am on the side of these topical symptoms being temporary vit a eruptions when released from long term storage, and I aim  to "disrupt and release" aggressively to match my plasma donation schedule.

I used to get "crap in the eyes" either from taurine or foods with lutein (lentils, chamomile tea..). Maybe taurine causes lutein dumping?

Interesting. I use the 4% taurine eyedrops  (Russian TAUFON / TAUSTIN) and they clear up that crap pretty fast. I did eat quite a lot of lentils at the time my eyes were at their worst.

Years  ago when I first heard that   lutein was  found in the eyes, I began supplementing  lutein.   I wonder how long it took me to detox  it or if I ever did?
