Tim's Log

I am now 3 months into a low VA diet which I have been following strictly. During this time I have eaten a limited amount of non oily fish as well as bananas and dried mixed herbs. Pretty much everything else in my diet has been zero A.

I experienced strong detox symptoms for the first 5 weeks: constant headache, fatigue, lethargy, drowsiness, brainfog, eyelid spasm for 2 weeks. During this time my seb derm largely cleared up which had affected me for 15 years.

In the last couple of weeks I have been getting more of these detox symptoms and I also had the seb derm popup again very briefly. It appears to have cleared up now.

One other health issue that seems to have improved is bleeding gums. I have suffered with bleeding gums and gingivitis for over 20 years. This is not totally cured but my gums seem less prone to bleeding.

My experience of having these VA dumping symptoms along with an almost complete cure of my seb derm has made me realise that my health issues are largely related to VA toxicity so I am highly motivated to continue this diet. I really enjoy the diet and was only eating liver, dairy, eggs and veges like spinach because of WAPF/other conditioning. The only obstacle to following the diet is eating out socially but that hasn't been too problematic.

One other thing that I forgot to mention was that my lips no longer always have dry cracked skin on them and are totally free of that problem now. I have had dry cracked skin on my lips for years.

I always wondered why I used chapstick all the time. Β I still use it, but like you, I think my lips are less dry. Β Also, the are pinker and not as dark as thy used to be.

Garrett Smith over at nutritionrestored.com has some good advice for dealing with detox symptoms in his vitamin-A detox protocol. His detox bath in particular really seems to have helped my son. In my opinion it's well worth the $40.

I'm again experiencing fatigue, lethargy, drowsiness and brain fog. I'm finding myself going to bed for about 11 hours on some days recently.

I'd be curious how many others have experienced these symptoms occurring more intensely than usual while eating low VA.

Previous symoms can come back, and also old symtoms can come back too further into detox. I had days the first couple months just spent in couch because I was too exhausted to do anything else. Hang in there!!

I also second josh's advice regarding dr G's protocol. It explains a lot πŸ™‚

You have just described accurately what I am experiencing! Glad I'm not alone.

I hope you are feeling better again Tim πŸ™‚

I think my longest noticeable detox cycle stayed for 10 days (severly burning legs), else it is udually 1-3 days. Except dusty peeling skin, that just comes and goes as it pleases πŸ˜‚. I am 6 months in and barely have any exhausted days at all. Those were worst the first 3 months. I ate and slept basically πŸ˜‚

Thanks Liz πŸ™‚ Glad to hear that the detox cycles are getting easier.

I'm reaching four months in on the 7th and just had another shorter and milder detox cycle. My liver must have been like a polar bear's haha, these hypervitaminosis A symptoms are a very strong motivation to never eat another carrot again!

I'm very thankful to Grant, Garrett Smith and Matt Stone for publicizing the Poison A problem!
