Track your vit A status

Samsung is now helping you keep track of your vitamin a levels. A new feature of the galaxy watch 8 measures your antioxidant index. (Only trouble is they have their scale backwards). It would be interesting to see how this goes down over time and if it correlates with health benefits of the diet, if anybody is able to try it out.

From the description page:

About antioxidant index:

Carotenoids are the pigments that give color to red yellow, and orange fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, carrots, and oranges. All carotenoids are antioxidants, and you can only get them through food or dietary supplements.

Your skin is one of the places where carotenoids consumed through food are stored. Your Samsung Galaxy Watch uses an optical sensor to measure the level of carotenoids in your skin. You can see your results in Samsung Health's Antioxidant index

...

Carotenoid, a kind of antioxidant, builds up in your skin. The bottom of your thumb is the best place to measure because it has a large buildup of carotenoids. Pressing your thumb firmly to the back of your Galaxy Watch pushes blood out of your thumb and gives you an accurate measurement for your antioxidant index. The measurement is affected by how much carotenoid buildup is in your thumb, whether it's evenly distributed in your skin, and how much blood is in your thumb when you press it to your watch. You might get different results if you take more than one measurement in a short time. The score typically goes up when you have fruit and vegetables and goes down during times of severe stress or when drinking or smoking. It important to maintain a score that's right for you rather than taking dietary supplements to make it as high a possible.

...

Your antioxidant index is closely related to your long term intake of fruits and vegetables rich in carotenoids. It may take up to 2 weeks for your antioxidant index to reflect an increased intake of fruits and vegetables.

Taking dietary antioxidant supplements such as beta carotene and vitamins C and E can result in higher antioxidant index even if you don't eat many fruits or  vegetables. However, taking these supplements in big doses can have harmful side effects. Beta-caroteme supplements, for example, may increase your risk for cancer and heart disease. Therefore, it's recommended that you prioritize eating a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables.

Nice.

Might as well go for the orange look with some spray on tan.

@yitzchak

I'd stay away from anything smart. All the gadgets that track health status will collect data that will eventually be used to increase control. Don't buy smart watches, don't buy cars with anything fancy in it, don't use smart clothing, hell, don't even use Chat GPT (I've heard stories where people used it as their "friend" and confided their personal problems, guess where all this data ends up? In the hands of the wrong people). This stuff is all there for the benefit of those who sell them. When has anything been done in the interest of the people for the last 50 years? Kennedy Junior is just another disappointment in a long list of politicians who say whatever is necessary to advance, but soon, when they're elected, they forget who they're supposed to be working for. Politics is just another sham. In the end, they're puppets who only work in the interest of the few rich families in the world.
