Update: 1 year and 5 months ish
Quote from thomas on April 27, 2020, 9:26 pmHI! It's been a while since ive said anything on these forums. I am still on the same diet (beef, rice, beans) except I've been eating more beans these past 3 months.
Definite progress still happening. I am in a (much) better place in life and finally feel good enough to share whats going on so far
To start, i've been having these weird nose bleeds these past 2 days. Losing blood but i guess i can look at this in a good way since VA is in the blood :D. Still a bit concerned though
I've been experiencing weird heart palpitations and checked in the ER.. i had very low blood glucose. Proceeded to increase my white rice and felt a little better.
I cheat for 2 days once a month. I go and eat whatever the heck I want with my friends and stuff. Feel like those are really needed to keep me going with this. I've noticed that I feel my best physically and mentally when I go on these cheats though. I think what's happening is the VA detox is stopping and leaving my bloodstream which makes me feel great. (i should also mention I use these 2 cheat days as an opportunity to supplement on vitamin C.)
My only remaining problems are: waking up in the middle of the night every night to use the restroom, dandruff, and a tiny bit of dry skin on my knuckles. When I go on these "cheats" i notice that my dandruff fades as well.
I have faith that with balanced exercise, sunlight, proper food & nutrients, i will be completely detoxed by July. Trying my hardest speed up the process as much as I can.
Sacrificed nearly 2 years of my teenage life for this and I'm pretty proud of myself because this was MORE than worth it!!!!!

Quote from Arlene Nelson on April 27, 2020, 9:30 pmIf you're waking up at night, your body is stressed. Read Matt Stone's 12 Paleo Myths. It will explain why the wake ups are happening. You probably also need to vary your diet a little more now if you feel better after the cheats.

Quote from Ourania on April 27, 2020, 9:47 pmHi @thomas! Thank you for your update that gives us encouragement. It is good to hear you still have improvements after nearly one and a half years.
You still have sleep disturbances it seems. What about your dreaming? Do you dream every night? Or rarely? I think this might be a turning point. If you did not at first but do now, do you remember when you started dreaming again?

I dream almost every night. I actually don’t think I stopped dreaming during this, if I did it was for a week then they’d return

Well, im trying to deplete vit A as fast as possible, so it doesnt seem too bad. I also use sunflower oil and eat a peeled apple every now and then

Quote from Orion on April 28, 2020, 6:11 am@thomas I still have waking issues fairly regularly at 1.5yrs on the diet as well. One trick that recently helped I think, was having mashed potatoes with my beef, rice and beans at dinner time. Potatoes are quite nutritious, so something in there is helping.
Glad to hear your are having success, I still see positive results as well, so know this is the right path, just need to be patient and push on. Also the cheat days are a good idea!

Not just potatoes but carbs overall help with sleep. Waking up in 2-3 am is mostly due to low glycogen in the liver = stress hormones will wake you up.. That's why it is hard to not wake up x times at nigh when you are on low carb/keto diet.. So eating enough carbs to keep your liver glycogen full will help for sure.. Btw the amount of glycogen that can be stored in the liver depends on the health of your liver. For example people with fatty liver can't store much glycogen at all and I think the same goes for any toxicity like vit A, iron, copper...
