So perhaps the statistical benefit of vitamin D we see (for instance, the number of cases of Multiple Sclerosis is higher in more northern places) is because the sun is exploding vitamin A in the skin, and not because D is made!
Remember there was an online way-of-living (can't remember the name, but it has been discussed on this forum) in which people totally avoided D in all it's forms including sun and food? And those that were trying it thought it helped?

This is the thread on that topic (of a low vitamin D way-of-life)

I think I may have found the reason why I've been feeling like crap lately. I've been having severe brain fog, low mood, derealization, metabolism/thyroid issues, slow digestion, and generally unwell. It seems the culprit has been... not iron, vitamin A, carotene, vitamin D or others but magnesium citrate. Citrate has been shown to inhibit the activity of ceruloplasmin, a protein I had previously issues with (it being too low and copper abnormalities too). Even very low doses of 50-100 mg caused trouble. The higher the dose, the worse it all was. How do I know it was the citrate and not Mg itself? Yesterday evening I took Mg malate instead and don't have the same issues today, not to the same extent at least. I will keep taking malate for a while and see how it goes.

Quote from lil chick on January 6, 2026, 11:52 amWhenever I've tried to take magnesium it has caused bad problems for me. But then again, so have many, many other supplements, and that is why I try to avoid them. But magnesium is right up there, often causing things like back or neck spasm. Even taken externally.

Regarding magnesium supplementation, you might be interested in taking a look at these posts by Medicine Girl:

Part 2 of 2 How industry created a deficiency, built a market, and sold a metal as medicine.
My HTMA showed sky-high magnesium and I was told they'd never seen such levels. Needless to say, I've stopped all magnesium supplementation and am also drinking distilled water (as the magnesium levels in Cyprus spring water are among the highest in Europe).
