VSS: what do you see with closed eyes
Quote from lil chick on March 3, 2026, 8:38 amVisual Snow Syndrome (VSS)
The doc in the video says "normal" people should only see only black but some people see pixels (or other things) when they close their eyes in the dark. The video's comments are also very interesting.
I couldn't help wondering if this is somewhat like visual aura in migraine (or that migraine visual aura is a very intense version of this)
And because of that, and because my migraines are now gone on lowered VA, I began to wonder if this disorder is actually a sign that you are VA overloaded.
My VSS has been there since childhood and is not gone. Please reply with 1. do or did you have VSS? Is it gone now with lowered VA?

Quote from lil chick on March 3, 2026, 8:57 amMy guess would be that this is somewhat like a visual version of tinnitus. (ie sensory nerves misfiring/over active).
So, along with the above questions, do you have tinnitus?
I have both tinnitus and VSS.

Quote from Joe2 on March 3, 2026, 1:52 pmHad various versions on and off over the years. Worst times were at my health azimuths. And for sure the flashing lights / auras are extremes of the same. Things are about to get way too spicy when those come. For what it is worth, migraines are routine at (or at least were 20 years ago) at special education behavioral disorder high schools. Almost all the kids and most of the staff get them alot.
Sidebar - ALL of the kids and dang near ALL of the staff were on horrific massive doses of various drugs as well.
Another sidebar - and they all ate crap all day.
My mentor was a 65 year old retired Catholic school principal (and she looked like a mean old nun) on her second career teaching violent psychotic kids. Besides poor diet and heavy drug use, she suffered the worst with migraines. Caught her once when these flashes started. Pulled her into the kids' quiet room. Sat her in lounge chair tipped back turned out lights and held my hands just off her mastoids supporting her neck. Kept silent not moving 5 minutes just breathe. Quietly walked out. Left her there another 10 minutes. When she walked back into the classroom had the calmest sweetest smile. Freaked the kids out. They never saw her comfortable before. Notable how much less violent they were that day.

Quote from Joe2 on March 3, 2026, 2:25 pmSo yeh, I get a little tinnitus and have for years. Most of the time I do not notice it.
After talking with the wisest person in this house, we noted she gets the finer pixels while I get the larger aura flowing images more. She has much more and worse tinnitus. We also noted that our first image when closing our eyes is the negative of whatever we last looked at. As that fades the snow storm starts. Where I equate that with migraines I learned ages ago that clamping down or clenching the eyes shut maximizes the snow storm. That is how I learned to fade the images as a kid. My guess is that is how I learned to reduce and avoid migraines. I put effort into learning to reduce the images when they came as soon as they came. I almost got vertigo from mine sometimes.
Guessing this is how migraines are related. Vertigo alone can bring headaches. Also guessing that clenching eyes shut is the front side version of muscles bringing on images. Stress and such brings muscular tension to back side and similar images come in much more sneakily.
First time I ever did it consciously, I had a fever high enough to hallucinate. Think I was 7. Had chills, was pukey and saw monsters everywhere. Older brother was in charge while we were away from home. He made it clear we had no access to Mom or any other help for the night. I remember sitting up in bed all wrapped up feeling loads of self pity and getting mad. Then just decided monsters needed to go away. When they did, I felt like I was on to something. So held still longer and continued. Think that was first time I relaxed on purpose.
And yeh, I get both ear and eye worms less now. This is 38 months into low vA.
