What do you put on your cracks?
Quote from lil chick on November 26, 2019, 6:58 amSo, here it is late fall and conditions are getting harsh on the old skin.
I'm afraid to put anything from the vegetable or animal world on my skin (such as olive oil, herbal salves or lanolin) because I wonder about the possible vit A content (and other plant poisons). I suppose coconut oil is fine. But would I be ungrateful to nature if I said coconut oil doesn't have much staying power (and is as hard as a brick at 65F)? Maybe if you are down in the tropics it's great. I could make an emulsion with coconut oil, beeswax... (if I wasn't so lazy) (are we sure beeswax doesn't have vit A?)
I bought a tube of Vaseline. It's sitting on the counter. I just can't make my au-naturel self use it
I remember, long ago, a dermatologist told me that Vaseline products were actually the best because they were so non-allergic. I suppose that was based on experience, and it doesn't really surprise me (now).
And, once I read about a mother whose baby had rosacea and she used Vaseline based products (directly after bathing) to protect his skin and it worked.
Any ideas/thoughts?

Quote from MaryAnn on November 26, 2019, 9:57 amHi Lil chick,
I make a homemade lotion with organic sunflower oil (~1 cup), coconut oil (~2 Tb), bees wax (~2 Tb) and cocoa butter (~3 Tb). I just warm the whole thing in the microwave in a 2 cup glass jar until melted. The bees wax gives it staying power and the sunflower oil keeps it from being to hard. The coconut and cocoa butter give it a nice smell. You can vary the amounts to get the consistency you like. I put it in the frig to set because that faster it cools, the smoother the texture of the final lotion. If I let it cool slowly on the counter it gets grainy, but you can always melt it down and re-cool. I keep the main jar in the frig and scoop out some to use in a smaller tub each week or two.

Quote from saraleah11 on November 26, 2019, 5:15 pmThanks for this post. I'm just past month 4 almost zero A and for the first time I can ever remember, have an extremely painful fissure on the tip of my thumb. Its miserable, and I guess a nasty detox symptom. Thank you Lil Chick, Mary Ann and Fred for the tips and the reminder as to where this even came from.. I might try wearing cheap knit gloves to bed with the vaseline, coconut oil, or Eucerin as I have had heel fissures for years. Eucerin with Urea and socks works good for those.
