What stop working without vitA?

I did not saw any information if anything (cells/organs) is actually stopping working after complete removal of all vitA versions from human body.

Anyone from people reading research papers spotted something like that?

I'm not asking about slowing down, I'm asking about complete shutdown or even death (not caused by toxicity) of this cell, organ or anything else.

There was the story of the boy who went blind after eating only KFC during his growth years. Don't know if it is just propaganda, bad science or etc.
