White rice and sugar diet, weight loss study

Paul Saladino posted an interesting video yesterday about why carbs are necessary. He highlighted a study done back in the 50s where people lost a lot of weight on just a white rice and sugar diet. Saladino inadvertently shows that a diet devoid of vitamin A helps people lose weight.

What you're referring to is Walter Kempner's Kempner diet. Grant looks at his and a carnivore diet (meat only) in this post on diabetes: Diabetes – the pandemic of the 21st century (you need to scroll down a bit to the subheading 'Intervention studies').
