@orion

What selenium supplement would you recommend?   I took aqua sel in the past and can't tell if the form of selenium in it is one of the ones that article lists.  I would also eat brazil nuts when I could find them.   My hair test results show I was in the acceptable range after the brazil nuts and supplement.   The last hair test I had was a year and half ago.

@romaine In the link I provided it is mentioned to use the salts of Mo and Se, I know @bludicka posted info about this not being good, but I have used the regular versions of Mo and Se in the past didn't seem to help me (although this was during non low VA dieting).

I am trying these to see what happens, also been using AC as well, with one meal per day.

Glad to hear you seem to be gaining traction!

@orion

I just read your other post about B2 and see that you do hair testing.   So when you took regular selenium, a hair test showed you were low?   I found the type of selenium in aqua sel - selenous acid.  Is what you consider a regular version?   I like the aqua sel because it only has 2 ingredients but maybe it didn't help me and it was brazil nuts that got me by.

I read the article that recommends products to try, though I read it quickly and will take more care later today or tomorrow.  Are the products that you are getting the herbal antibiotics?   Did you do a breath test or just going to assume you have SIBO.   Probably won't hurt to.    I don't have many of the tell tale signs of SIBO - not much gas, no gut pain, etc.... Though I have the associated problems like skin problems (not so much now but acne and rashes in the past) and celiac.   One of the causes I saw of SIBO listed was non alcoholic fatty liver which can be cause by retinoid toxicity.   At various points in my life I've tried to make my gut better since there are many articles pointing to it being at the root of disease.  I did try betaine hcl, slippery bark, colostrum and some others but it was scatter shot.   In the last 8 months or so I did try eating garlic everyday and turmeric but they both made my insomnia worse and maybe headaches worse too.   Die off?  Editing to add:  right before I read about A toxicity I was on a thought thread of high copper causing overgrowth of bad bacteria.  I had high copper.  I didn't follow up on that though.

@romaine  I used lots and lots of Selenomethionine, and my hair tests were always low, or below midrange.

From the link, so acids may not be good:

"should not be Selenomethionine or Selenium chelates, or Selenium amino acids complex"

I found that I needed to take the AC about 4 times a day to help keep the headaches at bay but now I don't need nearly as much.      I wasn't aware that AC only soaked up the fat soluable vitamins so that is good to know.    I feel soooooooo much better than the last 16 months and feel dumb for not trying more sooner but just very thankful for your post.    I was in so much pain and that just added to the depression that A toxicity causes on its very own.    I am expanding my diet now too and not feeling bad because of it!    It seems like the antidote, at least for me.    When I got lots of sun this summer and fall, I only felt worse and never got better so it seems like vitamin D might stir things up but not be an antidote.   I have tried various B supplements and didn't get relief - I tried various amounts too.  I eat lots of beef and beans which have lots of the Bs and always have on this diet and before so I'm not sure if my diet is deficient or not  (one thing I have not eaten for the last 30 years and will never eat again is pork, I know in my heart and mind that is bad to consume).  Maybe I didn't the give the supplements enough chance though and will reintroduce them in order to open up the detox pathways and not rely on AC or enemas.   But even if I have to rely on AC long term I am not worried about any ill effects others report might happen.

Wooohoooo! That's so good to hear, @romaine !!! I'm really happy you're feeling better, and also able to eat more types of foods. That's just awesome. 😀

@orion

Thanks for the feedback.   Selenous acid is not an amino acid but point taken.

@puddleduck

Thank you for the support.   I am extremely grateful for feeling much better.  Now I have to work on the root cause of my problem/s but feel more up to it than before.

In the book The Devils Poison: How Fluoride is Killing You the author has some good info on B Vitamins. Fluoride and other toxins interfere with B Vitamins. You can read the part on riboflavin on google books. It explains how riboflavin is needed to mobilize iron and that it is likely that it is needed to mobilize copper. It makes a lot of sense that riboflavin deficiency could be responsible for copper toxicity or non bioavailable copper.

Re fatty liver: choline is important which is one reason why I've started eating some eggs.

I am going to take the herbal antibiotics based on my symptoms.

@tim-2

I used to eat 2 eggs everyday before the diet and recently started eating 1 a day about a month ago as an experiment since Grant reported that it could slow down the bad effects of detox or maybe in my case incomplete detox.   Early after eating them again I seemed to get a noticable boost but then not, though no bad effects I could tell either.  Since I enjoy eggs I keep eating one a day.    I in fact grew up on a farm with a egg laying opperation.  Eggs have usually been part of my diet and never feared the cholesteral scare of  the past.   I choose pastured eggs even though they might have more carotenoids because I believe it should be a criminal offense to keep any animal in a small cage relative to their body size.    I don't think I was deficient in choline, at least not before going low A.

I haven't ever really used fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash and stopped using tap water for the most part (though I don't think my community puts fluoride in it).   A few years ago I stopped fluoride treatments at the dentist office.   Not saying I don't have a problem with it but I've tried to elliminate it in the ways I know.

I hope the herbal antibiotics help you.  I will look into that more for myself too.

So agree with you about cadged hens, @romaine ! It’s very sad and wrong. ☹️

@tim-2 Crazy about the fluoride connection! 😮 Very interesting stuff.

What's the latest news on Activated Charcoal?

Any cause for concern or still a possible modality?
