Blood pressure and cholesterol levels

Page 1 of 7Next

I’m curious if anyone is tracking their blood pressure and / or cholesterol levels while on a low vitamin A diet?

Thanks

My BP has gone from 135/91 to 110/78. I’ve been doing as low A as possible for 6 months.

My mom told me that after 2 weeks both she and dad saw great improvements in their blood preassure. Both have been on medication for years with no improvements. Now they have lowered their dose and hopefully they will be able to get off it completely.

I was borderline high (am usually on the low end) a month or so back which came as a shock and I thought it was the vit A. But turns out it was my kidney and after putting a stent in it BP fell down to normal. However I have noticed, before this, that BP was climing up to normal (120/80) rather than being on the lower end where it has always been, so I am at least keeping track now.

Hi Liz and Guest,

Thanks for the information.

I saw a big change in cholesterol...i started low VitA in Sept'18...my diet prior to Aug'18 included lots of butter/eggs.  my source of fat now is beef and added sunflower oil.

total Chol                277                                                                              160

LDL                         189                                                                                 91

HDL                        72                                                                                   58

Tri                           59                                                                                  54

I ordered a lipid panel today and will post my results as soon as I receive them. My cholesterol had been trending up starting in 2011. I actually haven't had it tested since January of 2017 and the result were pretty bad with my total cholesterol at 260. I'm trying to track down the exact results for comparison now. I feel like they will probably be better since I have a cholesterol deposit below my eyelid that has been shrinking recently but it will be good to compare the numbers especially since my BP has improved so much.

I was wondering what was the weird yellowish bump in the corner of my eye. I think that's a cholesterol deposit. I was not worried about it since it was not growing, but it's good to know.

Here is a screenshot of my current lipid panel. It's vastly improved with only my LDL being slightly elevated. I'm having difficulty obtaining my results from 1/2017 but I'm not giving up because I'd like everyone to be able to see for themselves rather than simply take my word for it! Going by memory my total cholesterol was around 260 before and my LDL  >150 and triglycerides @170. I can't remember the HDL from that time. I'll post the old labs as soon as I get them. Apparently I have to physically drive to the lab because my employer, their wellness program coordinator nor the lab company itself will give them to me electronically. I'm surprised by the current results actually because I've been refusing to take cholesterol lowering drugs for the last decade and I have finally succeeded in bring my levels into the ideal range (except LDL). Thank you Grant!

Both myself and my sister got these (I think they call them "milia") after starting vitamin A supplements.

I had several appear after having been on a low vitamin A diet for several months. I agree that it is cholesterol.

This is a very good thread.

I never get my cholesterol measured but I had a heart scan, the kind that shows your beating heart on a screen. The doctor said I have zero plaque in my heart and arteries and commented about how thin and flexible the walls of my heart were and how easily they moved. He was surprised to see that in someone my age. I've been eating a low carb/high natural fat diet for 20 years. I asked him what my chance of a heart attack or stroke was and he said, "zero."
