Calcium
Quote from thomas on April 14, 2019, 2:16 pmOkay so this is what I got down so far, as far as calcium:
Egg shell calcium(not well absorbed)
Calcium supplements(risky)
Almonds, soaked overnight and peeled
Any other recommendations for calcium? I'm a teenager with VA toxicity (eliminated it for 6 months, feeling much better) and I feel like i should be getting more calcium in my system since i'm still growing.
I currently supplement on B complex w/ Folic Acid and Vitamin C every now and then. So those shouldnt be an issue as far as im concerned

Quote from who_am_i on April 14, 2019, 10:13 pmSince being low VA I come to believe that calcium needs are generally largely overstated, don't know if this is true for adolescents though.
I would add white beans, sunflower seeds and (dried) figs to your list. Maybe even tofu, but I am unsure about its Vitamin A content.
You could drink grape juice too, one liter would provide you with additional like 120 - 130 mg.
I personally would never take a calcium supplement.

Quote from thomas on April 14, 2019, 10:56 pmThanks for the reply, I'll surely check those out
Im currently eating 2 slices of white bread (has 20% RDA calcium per slice) every 3 days or so, while i get a ton of sunlight for better absorption.
Only down side to this is that the slice of bread is also fortified with 6% of the RDA for iron, which triggers minor symptoms.
not too big of a deal for me though

Mineral water is a good source of calcium. Gerolsteiner seems to have the highest mineral content.

Quote from bludicka on April 24, 2019, 8:11 pmI take calcium malate von thorne, only 250 mg every other day, malate is good form, my teeth are no longer sensitive. I tried sesame seeds, almonds, poppy seeds, figs but they are very high in oxalate, all calcium in sesame seeds is in the form of calcium oxalate - not the best.

Wouldn't calcium acetate be the best? That's what ive heard at least.. I'm glad you are now in control of your tooth sensitivity 🙂

Quote from thomas on April 26, 2019, 1:24 amLittle update on my situation BTW -- I said yolo and am taking half a teaspoon of eggshell calcium about every 2 days in the morning right after drinking apple cider vinegar. My neck pain is gone and I may be going crazy but I think i sprouted a good half inch in the past 2 weeks.. if thats the case its probably due to the eggshell calcium and vitamin D from sun exposure

Quote from Bella on May 10, 2019, 12:49 amIt does seem like once I got the A (and supplemental D) out of my diet my craving for calcium went way down. I’ve used egg shell calcium off and on but I’ll go weeks now without thinking about it.

Quote from Jiří on June 17, 2020, 11:18 amI think plant sources of calcium are useless. They are all high in oxalates. So that calcium is not bioavailable to us. You can see vegans who are eating insane amounts of spinach, seeds and other "good calcium sources" but their teeth are really bad in most cases.. Calcium supplements are not dangerous. Just don't take crazy amounts at once on empty stomach.. If you take like 200mg after meal it will be slowly released to the bloodstream.. It looks like calcium citrate is the best form. Because the body doesn't need stomach acid to absorb it, but calcium carbonate which is also form in egg shells is very alkaline. So if someone has already low stomach acid production adding cal carbonate can totally shut down digestion.. It is like taking baking soda for heartburn. People think they have heartburn from too much stomach acid so they neutralize that with alkaline substance like baking soda. But they don't realize that heartburn is from low stomach acid. So they will make things even worse lol.. I started taking calcium citrate. Hopefully with detoxing vit A, increasing my vit D level and taking in more calcium will remineralize my transparent teeth..
