Cats and dogs detox diet

PreviousPage 11 of 12Next

One of the reasons I keep "beating this dead horse" is because my old, toxic cats seemed to want something beyond just raw meat.  Switching them to raw muscle meat did not cure them, they were not satisfied with it, and all my reading here told me that it should have been just the ticket for my little carnivores, but it wasn't.   Perhaps they were too far gone, perhaps they were just at end of life, or perhaps there is some sort of lesson to be learned.    That this guy's odd cat lifestyle could get cats to twice their age, it just makes me wonder!     (17 vs 34).    :'(

At my children's request I kept them as indoor-cats for the last several years of their lives, and they became much too interested in any houseplants, so I had to throw them all out.    One day my orange boy begged to go outside and my heart told me to allow it.   He looked at the sky, he nibbled the grass, keeled over with a heart attack and died.

Experiments with diet and lifestyle can be "for keeps".

I've heard it said that free range farm animals such as chickens and grazers knowingly seek out plants for their medicinal effects.   But who is to say?

Using a plant to treat a specific health issue isn't the same as eating vegetables over a lifetime for the hormetic benefit, I think.

Regarding kidney function in dogs…I’m attaching this paper regarding the controversial topic of low-protein diets prescribed for dogs with reduced kidney function. Note the last paragraph on page one! Wow.  Do they have any idea what they just pointed out about liver? I’d like to know what you think of this paper.

I came across this post about librella and noticed that the injection can affect the liver

In addition to food modifications, we need to think about other toxins we are putting in us and our pets.

Lauren Von - they induced kidney problems through feeding high protein/liver. It reminds me of how they induce colon cancer using carrageenan. Perhaps it would be a useful line of enquiry/ we can learn more about vitamin A and other toxins by how scientists induce disease in the lab.

Wait.  Zoetis came out and said the vast majority of cases that use Librela get positive happy outcomes.  The cases with negative feedback are rare.  Safe and effective much?  Mild and rare much?

This is what comes when sorcerers are allowed to rule eh?

When I browse raw feeding forums and communities, everyone is adamant that organs (especially liver) are essential and if they are not fed, the dog/cat will definitely run into problems later on in life.

Does anyone here have a counter-argument to that position? Does anyone have experience feeding their pet no organs for an extended period of time (especially from a young age) ?

I have a puppy and while I’m down with the vit A toxicity theory I also don’t want to take any risks that could damage the puppies health and development.

I’m currently only feeding beef mince and chicken necks.

33 months feeding a now 11 year old dog and 13 months feeding a 15 month old dog.  raw ground whole chicken, raw ground beef, rice, oatmeal.  They are stronger and better than any dogs I have seen in 50 years.  Old dog is recovering from the damage incurred from 9 years on WAPF diet.

I read yesterday that cats don't convert beta carotene to VA.

Not buying that idea.  I read that too.  Our little guy loved pumpkin we cooked up for pie.  Died at 11 kidney failure.

Why do cats have to eat raw meat I don't get it

They need a lot of taurine.  It cooks out easily.  That is why they love heart.
