Charlatans and Opportunists: The Hidden Exploitation in Vitamin A Toxicity Science

PreviousPage 8 of 8

"I must highlight a group currently corrupting the simplicity of this Vitamin A reduction idea, misleading people to buy their products and services.

The first group is the Vitamin A Toxicity Facebook group . They rely on Meri Arthur for research. This group claims that the problem lies in the metabolism of Vitamin A, rather than excess of vitamin A itself "

Yes, this is a low point when you criticise one of the people and indeed a whole group for thinking about Low vitamin A and question their motives. We have spent thousands of hours on this. Solving our own puzzles as to what went wrong and correcting the problems with experimentation. It's a matter of necessity and life and death in some cases. Mostly Dr Jenny Jones and Meredith Arthur. And Jenny is one of the most liked commentators on this forum, Vitamin A toxicity group and previously on Love Your Liver (with the exception of Tyler G who was prolific at one point). Doesnt mean you all agree with Jenny but she's genuinely seeking the truth in collaboration with Meredith. Indeed when seizures nearly kill you then your life actually depends on it. And we have a number of new theories which have been tested and very quickly help (salicylate sensitivity, histamine intolerance, choline/eggs for fatty liver, betaine for sparing choline, excess nitric oxide, functional B6 deficiency and Vitamin A metabolism theory). And if we're thinking about vitamin A metabolism then Grant will admit he doesnt know much about it. Grant did the detox a certain way to reduce/eliminate the vitamin A. It's not the only way and indeed since the 1970's hypervitaminosis A has been successfully treated by increasing protein and removing the highest sources of Vitamin A like supplements and liver. There is a better way to detox and improve liver health. Jessica with an ultrasound and no fatty liver has to some extent demonstrated it. You can help metabolism by breathing better, reducing metabolic acidosis, improving gut health, taking bicarbonate when appropriate, exercise/lifting, sleeping better, lymph work and stress reduction. Some might even argue metabolism is more important than vitamin A reduction although it clearly helps getting the highest culprits out of your diet. And all the people contributing their thinking have been doing it for free. Charlatans is highly inflammatory. Show a bit more respect and humility that we dont fully understand everything.

This is such a great and honest answer from Grant. It speaks to his character. Things are obviously more nuanced than just eating rice, red meat and beans. And so we continue to look for answers on how to make this work. Grant clearly shows how less vitamin A in the body improves function. In all likelihood, vitamin A doesn't deserve to be called a vitamin; it's more likely a toxin. It will be interesting to see if I can actually lower my serum vitamin A levels on eggs over the years. That still needs to reported.

Virtually all of us can agree that less vitamin A improves function. There are other substances like selenium and molybdenum where they are considered essential at the microgramme level (55 mcgs and 45 mcgs respectively). And tolerable upper levels of these two are relatively microscopic too. An egg has 75 microgrammes of retinol. Therefore, as we are consuming eggs we cant provide any evidence unless we stop eating them. Beef and bison are likely to have some retinol and Vitamin A metabolites. It might be something like 20 mcgs per 100 grams. The evidence is conflicting. Therefore, Grant may be getting a tiny amount less than one egg and it could be essential. Indeed Grant may be getting the essential molybdenum from the beans at a tiny level too. The conversion of carotenoids to retinol in ruminants varying per diet, breed and overall health. So organic bison might be quite low relative to beef. Tiny but essential just like selenium and molybdenum. No one is saying eliminate selenium and molybdenum or say they are not essential. Indeed many are encouraging consumption of them as serving a purpose demonstrated by scientific research.

Once I had better liver health then serum retinol wasnt of much concern. Although might be of interest to see where it is when after 25 years my health is back to normal. It would be good to find some way to measure liver health and function. Ultrasound helps but I'm not sure it's a perfect indicator of liver function getting back to normal. And very few have normal these days in Western countries it seems. As Jessica sort of said also if vitamin A was a toxin then we'd all be getting better in a very straight line of good results by removing it. I considerably improved decades old issues with eggs, betaine and B1 foods.

@joe

my main skin issue is cystic acne.  I get this all over body though, but the worst spots are behind ears and scalp.  so far this issue has not changed much since adopting low vitamin A diet.  The first six months I tried the high fiber lower fat approach as advocated on the LYL program.  I recently gave this up as it did not seem to improve my skin much.  Have gone back to eating a more carnivore style diet, while still maintaining low vitamin A.  My skin has been an issue for 15 years now since hitting puberty.  Ive been told the type of cystic acne I have is a lifelong condition, so Im not sure this will ever fully resolve.

After seeing Garrett Smith's latest Twitter profile image, I wouldn't be surprised to hear he'd become an arms dealer and was telling people that you could shoot Vitamin A and copper dead with bullets, but you need lots and lots of them and the only ones that work are specially made by him using unique high-density lactoferrin and molybdenum cores and MMS injected tips.  Join his inner circle and get a 5% discount for life!  But only if he doesn't ban you, which he could do at any moment, for any reason, or no reason at all, because he is the self-appointed emperor of LYL (Land of Yappy Lunatics).

I thought I saw some other doctor on here pulling the same shenanigans. Give surface credit to Grant, separate yourself from evildoers ("unlike other doctors, I learned my lesson and adapted to low vit a"). Then, crucially, spread FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) about something, like perhaps the initial detox process itself, which Grant admits is tricky at best.

Invite forum members to your own site where you offer a plan, and upon arrival, mention it costs money. The same formula has been applied to every novel breakthrough in the history of science. In fact the fitness industry, which I used to be in, is largely built on such an unscrupulous model.
