What you just said makes quite a bit of sense, there are many pathogens and it's difficult to know what's causing what. Good on you for working out how to create effective medicine on your own. Whatever I have hates mixed herbs and also cumin, these herbs tend to work against everything but they don't kill most things just inhibit them.
Have you ever tried the medical route for testing for the offending gut bugs and treating them?

No, because more sensitive detailed tests are very expensive and I didn't want to take antibiotics. It is very difficult to test parasite infections too.
But I you have more experiences with various herbal protocols... one can easily tell if the protocol is effective because he has die off symptoms.
But I did many times "alternative testing", something similar to kinesiology with a specialized practitioner.

I've got some black beans soaking, I'm going to soak them for a few days until they start fermenting, changing the water often of course, then see if I can tolerate them.

You can try enzymes for digestion of beans:

The soaked beans will probably start to sprout. You can even sprout them first, cook them and then ferment them :).

What do you think is safer, coffee enemas or liver flushes? I finally did another coffee enema yesterday (last one I did was about 7 years ago) and I felt significantly better after (headache not nearly as bad), slept longer, and am feeling better this morning. I read a bit from the liver flush link bludicka posted and it warned against doing a flush if the liver is in too bad of shape. Given the damage retinoids can do to the liver I'm unsure how bad my liver is. I think my liver has been sluggish my whole life and has only gotten worse. My kids have the same symptoms as I did as a kid including acne. I don't think they would be up to giving themselves a coffee enema. Maybe a liver flush would be more appropriate for them? I will try to read more about disfunction of the enterohepatic circulation process. I wonder if this is a root problem for me and my kids and why. I have not had the detox cycles most people have had on the low A diet and now am fairly sure that the stored A is getting out of my tissues but just keep recirculating and not leaving my body. I have had no improvements on the low A diet even though I know that I am very toxic in it. I took liver and A supplements for 4 years prior. Also ate tons of colorful veg and fruits.
For the last nearly 1.5 years my main problems have been very bad headaches, insomnia (waking up at around 2 am), fatigue, brain fog (they all go hand and hand for me). These symptoms started before the low A diet. I have been eating beans and have most of my adult life. For the last 4 years I've mostly eaten black beans but when you wrote about them having high amounts of oxalates, I've reduced the amount to a quarter cup dry or less a day (many days only an eighth of a cup dry). I don't seem to have any gut issues from eating beans so maybe I should eat more? I want to try white lima beans because of the lower oxalate content but can't find them organic.
Thank you both for all your contributions to this forum.

You might have to experiment with stuff to get the DH system up and running smoothly, deficiencies here mean no detoxing:
zinc, selenium, molybdenum, B1, B2, B3, Vitamin E

About 10 days ago I did try some of those - the molybdeum, E, B1 and B2. I took them for about 5 days but only seemed worse. And I did try B3 flushes back in November and I felt better for the first day or 2 but then back to the same or even slightly worse. I have some selenium around and will look for it. With all the beef I eat I figured I was getting enough zinc but maybe will try it again. I had been taking all the minerals and E you suggested for years before getting really sick but probably not enough to even begin to protect from the A I was taking. I also took some Bs here and there but not that long. Also before, I had tried nutritional yeast but my insomia got worse and it gave me headaches too. I have been hesitant to take supplements since that is what got me into this very bad sick phase but have been more open. It is just hard to know what and how much, etc.... I can't take the headaches anymore so I think I'll keep doing enemas as long as they keep the headaches away but would like to learn more about the nutrients that go along with the detox, etc...

Coffee enemas are safer...and more gentle. Liver flushes were for me more aggressive, laxative effect of epsom salt and the excreted bile acids can irritate the intestine. I was doing a coffee enema only with 400 ml coffee for 15 minuts with a bulb syringe - it's very fast and still effective. But sometimes, when my gut was very damaged, even coffee enema was irritating. Three years ago I was tested by one practitioner and she said that my liver and gallbladder are in a bad condition... I am sure because of VA toxicity.
I think even though VA detox depletes some nutrients, we don't need very high doses... if someone eats beef, legumes, whole rice, potatoes, fruits, nuts, seeds... every day. I am taking regularly supplements but low doses...e.g. solgar natural vitamin E 100 IU every other day, high doses of supplements can cause problems.

Right now my diet is beef, white rice, black beas, sunflower seeds, apple juice (not much), about quarter cup grapes, and a couple of medjool dates - most are organic. As a treat I eat a few potato chips fried in olive oil or have mashed potatoes with butter. I just got some macadamia nuts in the mail so will add those in. Might try buckwheat again. I had some from a couple of years ago but went bad I think.
