Do any of you know the Liver King?

PreviousPage 5 of 6Next

By the way, Paul Saladino is another person we could put some scrutiny on. He also looks red. And he too is in the sun a lot. But he's also is a big liver pusher and consumer. Could it be one or both? And I can tell you as someone who has been a gym goer for many years, you can pretty easily point out guys who are doping because they look oddly over-muscled AND they look red.

Oh for sure that's true. You can't just be a couch potato, go on TRT, and expect to be a muscle monster.

I'm pretty sure that sun exposure breaks down vitamin A in the skin, so yeah it could be a protective factor. This would also apply to Saladino.

In regards to liver being fresh or not, yes liver is extremely susceptible to breaking down, so eating it fresh would be the only way I'd ever eat it. But I don't think that has to do with the retinol does it? the retinol would be in it's storage form retinyl palmitate which is the exact same form found in vit A supps that people have gotten toxicity from.

I do think men in general have huge livers and can probably consume far more than petite women. And that sun is a factor that isn't talked about enough on here. I will be seeing if my sun exposure and a low vit A diet has had any effect on lowering my serum retinol which was just normal back in Jan. I know it takes quite a lot to see that go low though.

@janelle525 Yeah, I agree I'm not sure freshness has much to do here. I'm a dude and probably have a larger liver than a smaller female, but I never ate gargantuan quantities of liver, I was buying chicken livers and also some beef calf liver and eating ounces of it per week and that still messed me up (in addition to my Weston A Price inspired constant dairy consumption). I'm frankly amazed that the liver king dude is not dead, but just looking how horrible he looks his 'fresh' liver habit is not being kind to him internally.

@chris-4 Yeah I am surprised he hasn't had a stroke or heart attack. But it is only a matter of time. We all have to die, some just accelerate that by many yrs by burning the candle at both ends. I truly wouldn't recommend anyone eat liver. We can get those nutrients elsewhere.

"Freshness" is not the same as RAW. Grant has theorized here that heating VA leads it to change to retinoic acid, a more "toxic" form.

Then wouldn't frying an egg or boiling an egg or heating up milk cause it to convert to retinoic acid too? Actually during my WAPF days I was a big proponent of not denaturing stuff so I ate soft yolked eggs, raw milk, and raw liver (swallowed pieces I had frozen then thawed a bit). That still didn't prevent me from having a lot of issues.

This guy is ridiculous. The stereotypical male jock: all guns, shirtless, UFC gawking, wannabe action hero. But mostly just empty and hollow. Where's the substance? He comes across as a spoiled brat acting out his childhood fantasies. He's the reason feminists think they have any legitimacy. For better male role models, look at John MacArthur or David Burns. Both old men who left a legacy. Something I'll never achieve but better to aspire to than to look like an overblown Ken doll spewing nonsense.

Physically he is no role model either. Guys like Mark Spitz, Zinedine Zidane or David Beckham embody true athleticism much better and also set more natural standards than the roid up clown. TRT gives kids all the wrong expectations.

True strength is being cool as a cucumber, no matter what happens. That's what women mean when they want a shoulder to lean on. It's not physical strength, but mental strength that is practiced every day when the messiness of life falls on you and demands that you act in a sensibel way. This is attractive in a man.

@janelle525 that's what Grant theorizes, that heating milk, and yes probably egg yolk causes it to convert.

Who knows though? I know cooked liver is disgusting. Raw might be an improvement.

It is, it's gross to me too.   I've definitely known people who say they don't think it's gross, and even some who say they crave it.   But it feels good to not be a hero and admit that.   I did like a well-salted pate, but I think I'd eat shoe leather if it was well-salted.

I think some foods like liver and dairy and eggs might have some nutrients that help the person enough that the over-all effect is not as negative as the VA level might lead you to believe.   Also, just as in humans, there are young purple livers that have less VA and old, yellow livers that have more.   VA toxicity comes with age.   There are old cows giving milk and young.   Old chickens and young laying eggs.   What we read in charts for VA levels is just an average.
