Quote from michele on July 21, 2019, 6:47 pm3 month update...
I’m still on a strict regimen of lean red meat, rice and beans. Some days I will add cauliflower, a couple Brazil nuts, a tiny bit of sunflower oil, a handful of raisins and/or a peeled apple. I’m no longer losing weight (which is good) and I’m eating around 2,500 calories a day.
I still have bad days with my eyes, but looking back to 3 months ago before I started this diet, there is definite improvement. I am using eye drops only 2-3x a day (whereas before the diet I was using them 2-3x per hour!) and sleeping with the ceiling fan on. This is a big step for me! There is still a very long way to go and I’m not sure I’ll ever be back to “normal” but I’m hoping. I remember reading that it took Grant 2 years for his dry eye to resolve...so I’m committing to at least that long!
My skin has had some interesting “detox” (?) reactions over the past 2 months. There was about a week where the skin on my arms and legs continuously shed like a lizard and my face was extremely dry. I also got a bit of eczema on my eyelids. And then, over the past few weeks, the skin on my face has gotten more oily with some small breakouts. And also, dandruff! This is new for me.
Joint pain comes and goes but it’s nothing like the first month of this diet. Hair is also no longer shedding like it was.

Those of use who took Accutane took the 'herioc dose' it would seem.
Would you consider cognitive function to have returned somewhat? Ie. Brain fog, memory or other regions like articulation?

Quote from ggenereux on July 22, 2019, 6:53 amHi Michele,
Thanks for posting your update. I hope you continue to see more progress.
I just want to share my experience with Brazil nuts. I went a bit overboard on them a while ago, and I think I started to experience a bad reaction to them. Mostly it was dry skin on my ears. So, just to be on the safe side, I've now stopped eating them at all. Of course, it could have also just been a coincidence too.

Quote from michele on July 22, 2019, 7:37 am@keero - Definitely a slow crawl. I didn’t notice any cognitive side effects from Accutane. Just anxiety and depression, but likely from the side effects and realization that I was poisoned!
@ggenereux - Thanks! I was adding the Brazil nuts for the selenium, but looks like there’s plenty in meat. I am going to try omitting them.

@michele I'm curious if you've seen any more progress since your last update over a year ago. Thanks!

Quote from michele on April 27, 2021, 7:26 amHi all... it's been quite some time since I've been to this website. I was just cleaning up an old email account (which is linked to this site) and saw some notifications and decided I'd hop on and provide an update.
I got hit REALLY hard by Accutane - I had very severe MGD (dry eyes). I was completely miserable, hopeless and in pain all of the time. Couldn't work, couldn't function, couldn't live. So many doctors, treatments, medications. Nothing worked, and I just kept getting worse. My eye doctor said it was the worst case he'd ever seen. I discovered Grant's books and website and thought this was the answer. I jumped in head first, and I also worked with Dr. Smith. I saw a little bit of improvement early on, and looking back, I believe this is due to the fact that I quit all medications and products I was using on my eyes. I was very committed to zero VA, and I strictly followed Grant's diet of beef, rice and beans. I probably did this for about 4-5 months. I saw tiny improvements here and there, but ultimately things started to get worse again. Much worse. Something didn't sit right about this diet with me anymore, and I went with my intuition.
I continued to research and stumbled across water fasting, which ultimately led me to Loren Lockman (check him out on YouTube - fantastic). Here I learned about a fruit-based diet and what is optimal for the human body. (Yes, I know a lot of you will disagree here, but I'm simply sharing my story). This ultimately led me to Dr. Robert Morse, who has helped to heal thousands of people of pretty much everything under the sun. Once again, I jumped in head first, as everything about a fruit-based diet and the detoxification/healing process made sense to me. I didn't have to read confusing scientific studies or go crazy analyzing different supplements (I take none) or stress over what vitamins and minerals to avoid or add or get obsessive over blood and hair tests. It was just very intuitive. And here I am, over a year and a half later, and I can say that my MGD is a thing of the past. My eyes are back to normal and I have my life back, and it's the most incredible feeling in the world.
I just wanted to share this in case anyone is not getting the results that they might have hoped for with this diet. For anyone who is seeing progress - kudos to you, I'm not looking to argue. 🙂 You can find Dr. Robert Morse on YouTube, he also has a clinic you can work with directly (but he shares all the information for free, no program you need to buy or anything like that). A significant percentage of his patients have taken and been damaged by Accutane - there are SO many testimonials of healing. Lots of Facebook community groups who follow this detox diet and lifestyle as well. My diet is pretty simple - I eat mostly fruit and some vegetables and nuts/seeds and my diet is all raw. Happy to answer any questions if anyone is curious.

Quote from wavygravygadzooks on April 27, 2021, 11:36 am@michele Wow, I can only imagine how excited you are to have recovered your eyes, congrats!
Would you care to speculate why the fruit-based diet worked for you?
It sounds as though lots of Vitamin C and fructose have the potential to slow certain detox processes, and I'm curious if your improvements stem from slowing/halting detoxification of Vitamin A rather than actually eliminating it from the body. Also, depending on whether that fructose is being converted to stored fat, it may be encouraging the storage of toxins like excess Vitamin A in fatty tissues, which might make you feel better for a time.
I don't mean to rain on your parade! But it is important to understand what is actually underlying your improvement, lest people are convinced to adopt such a diet as yours only to find a couple years down the road that they are still toxic (have just been hiding the toxins more effectively) AND are running into nutrient deficiencies from lack of meat/protein.
I hope for your sake that you have truly cured yourself, but I am very interested in how that might have happened physiologically.
Have you tried backing off of the fruit much since adopting your new way of eating to see how your body responds?
Thanks for sharing your story.

Quote from lil chick on April 28, 2021, 5:51 am@michele, such an interesting post. And @wavygravygadzooks does have an interesting thought, that perhaps you have turned the tide away from detox and toward storage. But if that helps (on this planet of VA) maybe it is still good knowledge.
I am wondering how your body is reacting to the diet. Have you lost, gained or stayed steady in your physical makeup?
Don't bears eat a lot of fruit/seeds in season? And doesn't it put weight on them for winter hibernation?
Hey, I never thought about this until just now but I wonder if bears go through VA detox as they open up their fat stores when they have their long winter sleep. I have heard they awake grumpy, LOL. And they leave marks on trees as they try to scratch themselves. So, I'm thinking itchy too.
Sorry about the foul language in the photo I grabbed off the internet. Don't let your kids see it.
Just recently I saw a video of a uniquely obese bear who lives at a dump. It occurred to me that he must be very toxic (I already embrace the notion that obesity is just a symptom of toxicity, and not really about overeating, although all food is slightly toxic as we know).
Cool post, and I suppose, difficult, since it is a curve ball from what most are thinking here.
