Does low A help fix mercury and aluminum toxicities?
Quote from romaine on July 31, 2019, 9:04 amI am pretty sure that vitamin A helps with these toxicities because it helps make organs and detox pathways work better but just thought I'd get some confirmation on that.
I got many, many fillings in the 70s and 80s. It was not uncommon for me to have 10 cavities at a time. While I no longer have amalgams because they all eventually got replaced by crowns or fillings without mercury, I would be surprised if I didn't have a large build up of mercury in my body. I also had hair test indicating high aluminum and some other bad stuff. I have been very slow to responding to a low A diet and so wondering if it could be in part because of all of this other crap in my tissues.
I tried zeolite for a bit but decided to drop all supplements except for topical magnesium though I'm ready to try it again but can't remember the best time of day to use it. Is it right before bedtime? Should it be well after the last meal of the day?

I am sure that VA detox helps with this... the healthier the body, the more effectively it can detoxify various toxins.
I think that my vitamin A toxicity is directly related to my mercury, heavy metals and copper toxicity - hepatic impairment, overloaded detoxification systems and impaired vitamin a metabolism in the liver - and I think this maybe a problem for some people. Because I've never taken as much vitamin A as some people here and before low VA diet this year I was bedridden, non functional, sleeping 14 hours a day and never refreshed with brain fog and memory problems as in the first stage of Alzheimer, I wasn't far from suicide, Grant's forum was literally a rescue for me.
And maybe if I was still very toxic with heavy metals... and with other health problems, my body wouldn't even be able to detox VA or only partly because of overloaded detox pathways.
E.g. there is a simple copper toxicity because someone has diet rich in copper and deficient in zinc - this can be solved easily and quickly but there is also copper toxicity where the copper metabolism is impaired, there is too much free unbound copper for various reasons - adrenal fatigue, heavy metals toxicity, liver problems, genetic - Wilson's disease - it doesn't help only to eliminate the copper from food, the reason why the metabolism has been disrupted must be addressed - adrenal fatigue, heavy metals, nutritional dysbalances... Maybe something similar is happening with VA metabolism in some people.
Dr. Garrett Smith has found that some older people have problems with alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme activity. Many mercury toxic people have null alcohol tolerance, they have lack of aldehyde dehydrogenase enzyme.
A substantial fraction of the population in Asia, particularly in Japan, have a low activity version of the enzmy aldehyde dehydrogenase. If people with this have a drink, they flush quite a bit more than those who have higher acitivty enzmyes" - then most of Japanese should be VA toxic but they don't eat excessive amounts of dairy products, probably don't pour carrot juice in liters and the WAPF diet didn't arrive there, raw beef liver is on the menu of extreme meals. http://theconversation.com/why-do-people-with-east-asian-heritage-get-flushed-after-drinking-alcohol-88767

Quote from lil chick on October 21, 2019, 3:38 pmIf these Asians are VA intolerant (or let's call it Vitamin-A STINGY) is it because they are from meat-carb agriculturalists? (I understand that some Asians are fisher folk, or herders. But some do live on a rice/meat diet)
Price never studied a meat and carb people. (he studied fisherfolk, he studied herders, he studied hunter/gatherers...)
However, I'm not arguing with you that toxins block the pathways.
VA is so prevalent in nature, why would people be set up to be stingy with it? But agricultural-ism isn't natural.
Another idea that pops into my head is that perhaps being stingy with VA is a famine+epidemic adaptation. In other words, perhaps people stingy with VA made it through a famine (in which most people got low in VA) and then an epidemic (which called for VA to survive).

Quote from Jenny on October 22, 2019, 9:48 am@romaine have you looked into the work of Prof Chris Exley on aluminium? He recommends Volvic or Fiji water as they are high in silica and this helps to remove aluminium from the body.

I'll try to read that soon, thanks. I was drinking water with diatomaceous earth before finding out about vitamin A. It was coincidental maybe, but that is when I crashed worse than ever. I don't think it was the DE but I've been hesistant to take supplements and I did read that silica can be bad (what can't, right?) Anyway, maybe I'll give it another whirl. I used to drink seltzer water from cans but gave that up awhile ago so maybe just doing that has helped my aluminum levels.

Quote from bludicka on October 22, 2019, 9:24 pmHigh aluminium can be a sign of mercury toxicity, the mercury holds the other metals in the body. Once someone chelate the mercury with ALA, the body will excrete the aluminium. The body can get rid of aluminium when detox pathways are not messed up by mercury.
You can post your hair mineral analysis in this FB group "Andy Cutler Chelation: Safe Mercury and Heavy Metal Detox" and ask for interpretation.
Don't take "alternative chelators" if someone is seriously toxic, these can stirr up mercury and other heavy metals in the body:

Quote from bludicka on October 25, 2019, 11:14 amMethylmercury impairs ALDH enzymes:
Mercury totally inhibited the enzyme activity while Cd, Fe, and Cu caused a slow inactivation to occur with time:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4372664/
"MeHg does not directly impair ALDH enzymatic activity, however MeHg depletes cytosolic levels of the ALDH cofactor NAD+, which could contribute to impaired ALDH activity following exposure to MeHg."
Today I was looking for how many people with mercury toxicity have alcohol problems - the most of them. When I was mercury toxic, I didn't tolerate alcohol at all. If you don't tolerate alcohol, you probably have a problem with these enzymes.

Quote from Orion on October 25, 2019, 12:02 pmThis is one thing I have noticed without a doubt, my alcohol tolerance is way higher now, can consume large amounts with no hangover. The past decades have not been like this. I liken this to my dehydrogenase systems having more spare cycles to deal with alcohol detox.

My face turned red and got sick and drunk with very little alcohol.
