Dried out

Page 1 of 2Next

Eggs seem to be really drying me out, especially my facial skin and hands (inside and outside) since introducing 1-2 eggs a day. Not sure if I am still paying for over doing things a short while back. I lost all my arm hair again and my thumb is still stiff af but I am getting therapy for it, and it is slowly helping. Not sure I am ready to up my eggs just yet. I thought betaine was to help with dryness> For me the opposite is happening.

@audrey I would suggest increasing food sources of Vitamin E. That could be connected to pale and dry skin. Eggs have a little Vitamin E but probably not enough. Sunflower seeds are a good source. Small fish another choice. Extra virgin olive oil. I get dry skin connected to my eczema which responds to stronger detox. So if not that then Vitamin E might be worth getting from food. Betaine should help with dryness. Perhaps you have difficulty absorbing fat soluble vitamins at the moment whilst the eggs begin helping that. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/foods-high-in-vitamin-e#TOC_TITLE_HDR_3b associated with pale and dry skin.

I find that I get increased dryness when I'm experiencing too strong a detox.  I don't really have a problem with dry skin but my mucus membranes get dry.  I get dry eyes, dry nasal passages and often more constipated which I think is partly due to less mucus production in my GI tract.  I have noticed this with eggs especially dry eyes.  I had increased to 2 eggs a day but have dropped back to one a day.
I also tried 1 -2 slices of beetroot and had to stop that as it gave me a headache and my stress levels went up.
On the plus side I'm getting noticably less shedding of my hair when I brush it since introducing eggs.

@rachel Quinoa is another source of betaine. It also has some oxalic acid so might be a problem too. Very small amounts are required about 20-30 grams of cooked quinoa to get betaine. Perhaps more time on the 1-2 eggs is needed to reduce leakiness causing the headache.

@Audrey, what did you overdo? Did you eat too many beans, or something else? I need to try be cautious of not overdoing things either because I tend to get obsessed with eating just one or a few foods... and then too much of it.... :/

Thanks @andrew-b it's interesting that you mention Vitamin E, for the first time in almost 4 years I actually craved an avocado so I bought a small one and had 1 slice of it yesterday which seemed to go fine.

Hi @rachel, I also get dry mucus membranes/nasal passages with strong detox, though I also associated this with extra betaine from sourdough bread/quinoa, but it could simply have been/be from the eggs. Sometimes 2 eggs is still too much for me, so maybe my dry skin is still a strong detox reaction. This sand paper skin is totally new to me. The eggs have helped keep me regular, and my anxiety has been mostly gone lately, which feels so good 🙂

Hi @inger I feel you on the overdoing of things, I also get obsessed with eating a few foods, but mostly I simply overdo things which is in my nature :/ Recently, I overdid the eggs, by adding in 2 a day along with sourdough bread and quinoa at the same time after a honeymoon period, and I really was enjoying the bread. It went well for a couple of weeks but then I could tell I was detoxing way too quickly again, and things caught up to me, I could tell bc my bowel movements increased to 5 times a day, I had liver tightness and twinges came back, as did dizziness. I felt like I dumped a lot of bile in the blood 🙁 Thankfully I am slowly recovering and feeling better than I was. Usually I tolerate beans very well, but they can also have this weird delayed affect, so I am always cautious with beans!

I will pay attention, and try to not eat 3 cans of beans / day... uh because thats what I will do if I do what I want to! 😉

I wonder if anyone here have had this dry skin on their legs, front of the lower legs, this snake skin weird dry skin, and it does not help how much I moisture the skin. I have had this several years already... in summer it gets a bit better, in winter worse...

When I started eating 2 eggs per day a few months ago my lips became dry and shrunken again like they were before I started the low vitamin A diet.  I was using chap stick constantly during the day for many years.  This time I didn't use any balms or other moisturizers and just lived with the dryness for a week or so and they finally got better.  I think it was some detox of vitamin A in circulation.  I have dry skin on the legs and hands but it is winter here.   I have been eating low A for almost 4 years so maybe it is too soon for you to eat eggs daily, @audrey , if you haven't been at it as long.
