dumping carotenoids?
Quote from Guest on January 29, 2019, 12:46 pmAnyone have orangish poo at times? I do every few days or weeks. Prior to my diet, I was eating a largish sweet potato everyday plus usually some dried mango, carrots and oj most days. Before starting the diet, it seemed as if my skin had gotten slightly orange, but not so much that anyone noticed or said anything. Just wondering if what I noticed might have been from carotenoids. It also seems like my sleep is worse before the day of the orange poo. Now I eat bananas, sunflower butter, oats, sugar, decaf coffee (recently switched from regular), black or white beans and lean ground beef. I don't think any of those would cause that color.

Quote from somuch4food on January 29, 2019, 1:36 pmI read somewhere a long time ago that normal poo is yellowish/orange and that dark poo is a sign of putrefaction going on in the gut (which probably generates endotoxins and inflammation as a result).
Can't say about carotenoids.

ok, thanks for the info. So if the color of poo is orange more often and orange poo is a sign that things are running better I guess that would mean I am getting healthier in that way, though I do feel worse before it happens. I would call the normal color a medium brown unless I'm constipated then it is darker though I am not constipated hardly at all these days.

Quote from Liz on January 29, 2019, 10:19 pmMine looks brown-ish but when I wipe it is yellow/light orange. I first noticed this 3-ish weeks ago and it has been like this ever since. I am also not as beige but more pink colored skin tone now. Have become more on the constipated side again though since this started (i am regular as in daily still though). My theory is the body is dumping carotenoids.

Thank you for the report. So there may be something to this. Nice to know I might not be alone.

Thanks for making a topic about it, now I feel like less of a freak 😂. I did mention this symtom in another thread as well. I wonder if there are others with the same experience...?

Quote from who_am_i on January 31, 2019, 2:08 amLiz, I made the same observations too.
My stool colour also often has a more orange-like colour. There is no question in my mind that these are carotenoids that we are eliminating because this orange-yellowish colour often comes along with loose bowels or mild diarrhea, which makes sense that the body tries to get rid of this stuff as fast as he can. I'm also visibly eliminating tons of Vitamin A deposits in my hands, feet and scalp, how else would they leave the body if not through bowel movements?

This is happening to me as well. ^ Before vitamin A detox, my stool was generally the same color of brown all the time.

Quote from lil chick on July 4, 2020, 8:21 amI think I need to join the orange poo club. We aren't talking day-glo tho. Slightly darker than the middle column below with orange tones to it. I remember it being more what I would call "deer colored" perhaps a slightly lighter version of the right hand column. The maker of the chart seems to think that your poo is lighter when there is enough fiber in it. But it is also yellower, isn't it? -- Not tan. Could that be because fiber takes carotenes away? I've also seen info that says orange poo happens due to carotenes in the diet. There is another aspect of all this and that is bile. Bile is green. Green + orange = brown. Not enough green, I would expect you might get more orange... Just thoughts... Bile helps with all things fatty...

Quote from Jiří on July 4, 2020, 1:07 pmThis stool color is mystery for me. I can't even remember when I had "normal" stool that looks like brown sausage. The only time my stool is brown is when I eat cocoa lol... When I eat green vegetables it is more green. Now I don't eat any green vegetables and my poop is yellow/orange.. My stool also does not sink most of the time. Which means there is undigested fats.. So I assume my problems are still from no bile production. 🙁
