Elizabeth's progress report

Short answer: I don't know and I haven't looked to see if retinol, retinyl esters or retinoic acids can crystalize in the body.

If carotenoids bother you more than retinol or retinyl esters in foods, then perhaps start out with reducing the type of carotenoid that you think is the worst for you.

Retinyl esters are probably easier for the body to store away since it is bound to a fatty acid but at the same time it is probably more easily absorbed. Carotenoids on the other hand doesn't usually come with much fat in whole foods (avocado is an exception) and less fat in a meal with carotenoids means that less is absorbed. But perhaps then the carotenoids that are absorbed are a bit more difficult to deal with for the body if it is already quite stressed.

Thanks, @David, I eat such a limited variety of foods that the only 2 things I had to eliminate were the grapes and some seasoning that I was seasoning meat with.  The second night I did not have burning in my eyes at around 12:00 that I had been having.  My vision is still blurry intermittently, though. I am going to read about Sara's diet again.

I had cut out tomatoes, orange juice, and peppers a couple of weeks ago.  I cut out 95% of the oxalates in the past 2 days.

Let me look around for foods that I can eat.

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

You are welcome, @elizabeth!

For me personally I think that too many grapes or raisins becomes problematic due to their relatively high flouride content. I enjoy some raisin/grapes anyhow, for example frozen grapes tastes great when it is hot outside.

I also like to eat some other fruits which are also high in potassium like figs, dates and bananas.

Wishing you the best of luck in finding out more foods that works for you at this point in time!

Regarding eye issues at night with the eyes:  my night time eye burning brought me here.  The eye issues were scary waking up at 4 in the morning with pain as acid on the eyes.  That was pre low vitamin A diet.  March 2021 is when I quit the multi vitamins and supplements,  took me about 2-3 weeks for that to stop.  Since then no burning eyes.
