Fats
Quote from Guest on December 15, 2018, 2:06 pm" lack a lot of essential nutrients" - Well we first need to see what are actual "essential nutrients" in the a real case life scenario.
I have a strong faith in innate intelligence that can be observed in kids. Looking at them its clear that just about every "healthy and essential food" is avoided and hated by them. Also they quite clearly avoid everything coloured. I have suspected for a long time now that our bodies are actually "magic mashines" but only when we are not trying to be "clever" meaning that our body just need some basic thermal units(pure calories) and maybe some basic stuff that can be sourced from meat as a food that contains basic building block for all tissues.
"oxidized/free radicals" where? most unrefined (raw) vegetable oils taste like garbage including olive oil so its actually possible that damage is there when we eat something against our senses. When refined and hydrogenated they become oxidized and tasteless. It's quite possible that all refined oils(except coloured ones which we avoid ) have gotten a bad reputation because of the "few" other condiments(ketchup, spices, eggs,) and "healthy" items(greens, cheese, and liver and butter) .
Beside the fact that animals store all other toxins in their fats, saturated fats may not be safe at all for other reason if one is planing to enjoy pleasurable normal eating with carbohydrates. And that reason is that they(especially palmitic acid but others too) block carbohydrate metabolism. Body needs just a little flame from oxidation of glucose(which will be there even without dietary sources) to start oxidation of saturated fats and in that situation presence of dietary carbohydrates will cause blood sugar issues and diabetic symptoms (insulin resistance) and weight (fat) gain.
To me lots of repeated "commandments" in the dieting world sounds just like simple rationalization and bad science that emerged from looking at our bodies as a dead matter .

Just to add. I have been eating refined sunflower oil and vegetable shortening without beta carotene for the last several months and I have noticed improved quality of my skin.

Quote from somuch4food on December 15, 2018, 5:54 pmMy kid seems to have broken instincts. He wants to eat anything coloured, but I suspect it may very well be some kind of addiction/bad association since he's been mainly fed those for the first few months of his weaning.
I'm also questioning whether there is any validity in the vitamin theory.

It's possible because all green and coloured stuff contain various opiates. Also kids sometimes imitate grown ups and are obedient from (wrong) conditioning that they will get what they want by doing so.
