@Bella Yay for healthy hair, and skin and teeth! 😁😁😁🎉

Thanks @paddleduck! I'm not vain nor do I want to look 20 again but I do like feeling good and looking good (for me) for my age.

The hair texture changing is one of the first noticeable improvements for me. When I used to drink milk and eat cheese, I'd always notice my hair get more coarse and unmanageable. Hair is one of the first things to change in poor health for me.

Wow, good to know I’m not the only one! It’s sad I forced myself to eat so much dairy. I never liked it or really ate it at all until my early 40’s! I thought it would help my bones but it probably did the exact opposite! Bella

I went for my third blood donation today since going on the A elimination. I noticed when I read the medication deferral list that Accutane was listed. I wonder what the reasoning is for not accepting blood from someone who has used Accutane in the last month?

My systolic blood pressure number was down 10 more points and diastolic remained the same at an acceptable 78. I had wondered if my hemoglobin would be too low because it had only been about 52 days since my last donation but it was 12.8 down from 13 on 11/12/2018. I guess the daily red meat is paying off.

Hi Bella, Sounds like you have had some positive results re blood pressure and haemaglobin. I have only done one blood donation, about 2 months doing low VA, but can only do another in 3 months (in australia). I felt amazingly calm for many many days.  Did you notice that?

Yes, I always feel better after donating-like a burden has been lifted from my system. It was especially noticeable back in September but I hadn't donated for a couple years.

I am curious if anybody has had a VA blood test since starting a low VA diet. I just got mine tested after 3 months low VA and it is 2.5 umol/L I realise it is not necessarily accurate for what is happening wholistically in the body however I am curious to track it over a longer time period. I noticed that my cholesterol over many years is on the higher side so it was refreshing to read Grant say that "one of the pathways for the breakdown of vitamin A is for it to convert into cholesterol. "

Mokus, I’m getting VA blood test done next week. I’ll report back. My cholesterol is vastly lower and all numbers are now in the optimal range besides ldl which is only slightly elevated at 109. I expect it will normalize in time. I haven’t had normal cholesterol values in about 10 years. Bella

Day 221 update:

I'm late getting my blood tests. I plan on getting them tomorrow. This is actually somewhat of a good sign because my health is so good that other things in life are taking priority-all the things people are normally able to devote their attention to when they aren't struggling to make it day to day. I had gotten so used to the struggle that I didn't even realize the level of my suffering. I just sucked it up and did my best.

A wonderful thing has happened and I mentioned it in another thread but my mind seems to be coming back online full force. I started classes in early April and on the same day my mom called to tell me she went on hospice care. Needless to say I was distracted and not doing spectacular in my studies. She passed away comfortably in her own home surrounded by family in late July. It was beautiful because that is exactly how she wanted it. That was 2-3 weeks into my low A experiment. I took a 2 month extension for school and finished in January of this year. I passed my boards this past Saturday on the first attempt and it's only a 50% pass rate. I was testing with people much younger than me and was the second person to finish. I'm so grateful to have my memory and retention capabilities back!!! Truly my mom's death alone would have been devastating before and although I've grieved I've been able to do so appropriately and still get on with my life and responsibilities.

On diet-I notice I seem to tolerate small amounts of quality butter fine now and eat a little (1/2 tbsp) when I'm craving it. Other than that I'm still doing ruminant meats, rice, white potatoes, low A fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, egg whites, GF white bread, occasional turkey, tilapia, scallops, white corn and black and white beans. I've stopped toying around with peanuts and pork.

My HTMA results through Harry are in but I'm waiting for my blood tests to post the findings.

Thanks eliza1275. 🙂

Hi Bella

Hearing how much you have had going on with your mom passing, studies and your health struggles. Sounds like you have had quite a shift re energy, focus and memory. I am celebrating your journey. Looks like your focus has been to keep a low VA diet and it is giving you results.

I had my HTMA tests (hair sample December, low VA started mid Oct) recently and it indicated a big detox (so starting low VA) and my retinol blood test (January) was high. My retinol was 2.5 umol/L (This is Australian testing so not sure if this correlates to USA measurements) but Dr G says I was in 5% highest range. So looks like this detox will be longer than a few months.

If you want to connect via email helpkissthecook@gmail.com

Look forward to hearing about your VA levels and hair testing

Mokus
