Fruit and Vitamin C effects on VA Detox

PreviousPage 2 of 2

OK @puddleduck you have really blown my mind with this blue berry thing!  Good post, and so timely for me.  Thanks so much for the FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

And there are those naughty food pigments causing trouble again!   Just when I was thinking I only had to look out for carotenes!   "Dependent on their chemical structure, polyphenols produce different colors from yellow-green to blue-red".  (my mind goes straight to the blue reds though, like wine and berries and perhaps blue corn and blue potatoes?)

I just had my second "food attack" in the 14 months I've been on this lowered VA regimen.  And guess what I had that night?  A delicious huge slice of blueberry pie  after dinner!   (along with some other foods that also seem to block my detox pathways, such as alcohol and grilled items).  And also on a day with TRAVEL.   :')   uh oh!

The berries were fresh-picked, tiny, almost black, and there were millions of them!

I do think I could probably eat that pie if I timed it properly, as you say.

I seem to do much better eating wrong things first thing in the morning, and not before bed after a long day of stuff.

Things add up and my body decides it can't cope and everything must go.

My thoughts turn to bears and how they start the summer lean and chow down on berries as each one comes into season, putting on layers of fat to live on during hibernation.

Would polyphenols be another thing (like VA) that bodies store in fat, and do human bodies create fat in which to store it when they are taken in large amounts (like during the summer glut of fruit?).

I think I've mentioned that I'm not (genetically?) a "gainer" and have wondered if my problems could be about NOT being able to create fat in which to store pigments....

My hubs says that I'm  "anomalous" in this non-gainer thing, but I think we all know string-beans (although I'm not a string bean really either, I have some muscle).
