Glycine - glyfosate - retinol connection

Page 1 of 5Next

Guys, I need help to figure this out.

I remembered an old post at 180degreehealth by Joel Brind, who is, to put it mildly, very pro glycine supplementation.

I hadn'read it since it was published and going back ro re-read i cannot help to think there might be a connection between glycine deficiency and vitamin A based on all the positive findings Joel write about here (and at other places at 180d): http://180degreehealth.com/glycine-immune-system/ like, glycine helped reduce severe sunburn.

This one brings up pathways relevant for the Price article below: http://180degreehealth.com/diet-inflammation-part-4/

And then I stumbled over this, who seems at first focus on folic acid issues but then get more into depth with glycine - glyfosate - retinol (just ignore the dietary advice at the end for obvious reasons).

Folic Acid and Glyphosate

It seems as if glyfosate can "replace" glycine and to me this is a bit scary since glycine is a part of glutatione, the mother of all antioxidants.

I would love if anyone could help me dig a bit deeper to see if we can come to understand this a bit better. Glycine is (due to diet, or glyfosate, or both?) also more deficient these days as it occur most in skin and tendons and not in muscle meat hence an imbalance can more easily occur of one relies on muscle meat alone (or goes vegan).

Glycine is quite a remarkable little amino acid. Maybe it has a protective role in vit A detox, as it is involved in bile production amongst other things? I dunno, I just have a feeling glycine might be a piece in this puzzle...

I had experimented a bit with gelatin during fall, but it didn't seem to make any difference maybe because I was still poisoining myself.

I also had a hard time finding ways to make recipes with it apart from jello.

I had started this thread that you commented on https://ggenereux.blog/discussion/topic/detoxing-glyphosate/

I had mentioned glycine but never found out more about it.   In another blog or forum or maybe youtube comment I saw someone ask also if taking in glycine would prevent glyphosate from inserting itself but no one answered and I don't think Dr. Seneff has come out to say if it is a good idea or not to take it.

I had also read Brind's articles on 180d those years back and started taking Now Foods glycine powder.  I took it up to 9 months ago when I got worried if I was an over methylator or an undermethylator though I think I will take it again.  When I first started taking it I noticed slightly better sleep and maybe other slight improvements but I have tried so many things it is hard to parse out what did what.  I do know that when I tried powdered gelatin I had very bad insomnia so there must be some other amino acid in it that I shouldn't have.

Gelatin can be very anti-inflammatory, it's rich in the calming aminos such as glycine, leucine, lysine. And it's low in inflammatory aminos such as tryptophan and methionine.  It's a bit tricky to use though, if you dont mix it perfectly it will cause upset stomach/intestine and anxiety and insomnia etc.

You can also increase these kinds of aminos by eating stuff like oxtail instead of regular muscle meat

I've used the bovine collagen type that dissolves in liquid off and on for years and always found it helpful. It was noticeably more helpful before I went low A. I used to miss it if I skipped it for a day or two because my menopause symptoms would get worse. I noticed over the past couple of months I rarely think about it. I've gone from feeling I need it to function to being just fine without it. I still enjoy eating oxtail regularly though.

I can't get oxtail where I live.   If I had just an eighth of a teaspoon of it prepared the way the can said, I would get insomnia.  I searched for an answer at the time as to why, because everyone else reported that it helped them, i.e., I couldn't find anyone else that had problems with it.  Was I the only one that screwed up mixing it everytime I tried it?  And thinking back, I probably did try two change how I prepared it.  Could just be that some don't tollerate everything in those kind of gelatin products.   Personally I think that it is the glycine in gelatin that helps people the most.

There are many supplements that I have tried over the years that have given me bad insomnia.

Would the collagen powder that dissolves have glycine. I’m guessing it would.

Yes. It’s just gelatin that’s been hydrolysed. Bella

Oh darn. I should have just continued in that thread instead of starting a new (grant feel free to move it) The only thing I have to say in my defense is my memory is horribly shitty still, and yet I have improved hugely. Thanks vit A, you a$$hole 😂

I have added back glycine to my regimen since a couple of days (along with my NAC), one heaped teaspoon before bed. I noticed improvement in sleep right away. Dunno why I stopped taking it actually, as I always got great results from it, i.e. less sore from workouts and faster recovery.
