Histamine liberators might be the biggest problem!

After experimenting with all kinds of diets for years, I think I have finally found what really is the problem with so called "trigger foods".

At least in my case, it is not the Vitamin A content of the food, it is not certain anti-nutrients like oxalates, it is not the histamine content of the food, but IT IS whether the food is a histamine liberator or not.

Foods that are marked with an are histamine liberators. 

Among them are (Notice how most of the following foods are classical eczema/Autoimmune trigger foods!):

  • Organ meats (but not muscle meat!)
  • Eggs
  • Avocados
  • Bananas
  • certain nuts
  • tomato
  • citrus fruits
  • most beans
  • procesed foods with E-Numbers/ synthetic food additives
  • dairy (notice on the list I posted most dairy food items have a "?" so dairy is probably also a histamine liberator)

Without any exception my skin and sleep slowly get worse when I consume foods that are histamine liberators. However with foods that are high in histamine but not liberators I have no problem. 

After avoiding histamine liberators I sleep good almost every night, I am almost never itchy and sebderm is 90% healed. And I only found out about this around 2 months ago.

Anyone with skin problems or autoimmune problems should give this a try. You have nothing to lose. I highly doubt that I am the only one having problems with histamine liberators.

I belong to the Trying Low Oxalate Facebook group, and apparently oxalates can end up being a root driver for histamine problems. I do have to stay away from yogurt because of its high histamine content. This also may be why I did so poorly with beans.

I hope I made it clear. Some people like me have no problems with high histamine foods as long as they arent histamine liberators.

I can eat tons of aged meat and never get a reaction. But with histamine liberators (regardless of their histamine content) I get reactions.

@max-3 that’s so interesting. I wonder why that is? You’d think that high histamine foods would bother you too. Well correlated 🙂

@jaj I dont know why this is, but it seems to be this way for many people. All the common trigger foods are histamine liberators.

It took me years to see the connection. I wonder why I have never heard about this from anyone?

@max-3 it is not about "foods that are histamine liberators" your body should control the amount of histamine and maintain some balance. Your DAO enzyme that breaks down histamine probably doesn't work well. Maybe you don't have enough ceruloplasmin which means your body can't use copper that is needed for DAO enzyme.. Histamine issues are mostly mineral imbalance..

I remember eating raw beef kidney for that DAO enzyme 🙂 I know that a healthy body should have no problem with almost any food. So obviously there is something wrong with me.

But again: I can eat as many high histamine foods as I want as long as I eat no histamine liberator foods, I am completely fine.

It is really weird, but it is what it is.

For example: I guess that a pound of dry aged beef has probably 100 times more histamine than 1 orange or 1 tomato.

But I react to the orange or tomato, but when I eat the beef nothing happens. Same with fish or with sauerkraut, which are both high histamine foods.

So interesting.  I glanced down the list and all of my faves are histamine liberators.   I've heard it said that you are always addicted to your food problems.  Dunno if that is true though.

Are you saying that possibly Grant's diet works because he inadvertently took away histamine liberators?

I suppose it is also possible that YOUR particular problem isn't VA, but Grant's IS.

I do think histamines are at least part of my issue.  I'm getting itchy just thinking about the whole thing. :0

Now, you mention bananas in your original post, but they actually don't have an 'L'.  I see from googling that it is considered a liberator, as you say.  Another odd inconsistency is that chocolate doesn't have an 'L' but cocoa does.   I see from googling that chocolate is considered a liberator.  :'(.  

No chocolate, no booze?  I will wither.  I might try it though, interesting take on histamine.

The whole egg white (but not yolk) thing really has my mind working.

Are you giving your gut enough time before breakfast and between meals to initiate the Migrating motor complex? It will sweep food remnants down to colon, thus reducing the number of bacteria and histamine sensitivity. An hour and a half or couple hours of loud gurgling should be enough.

I definitely give plenty of time before breakfast and in between meals to have the guts moving food down and I still react to certain foods. I think I am going to give this a try. I always thought the histamine intolerance diet was too restrictive but if I can just avoid the liberators maybe I am the same way and can still eat the high histamine food which I love like aged cheese.
