It is not on bread alone that a man shall live

PreviousPage 3 of 3

Does a baby feel anything at that age? I don't remember feeling pain or anything else at that age. The nervous system may not be fully developed yet. So why discuss suffering that doesn't exist?

Moreover, it is important to note that this child died without committing any sins, which means that he will definitely not go to heaven and he is a lucky person. To eternal happiness, where there are no diseases or other troubles.

According to Orthodoxy, suffering purifies. Suffering like burning in an accident is a powerful purification before death.

I'm glad of the culture that grew up in Europe, and proud to have the positive parts of it as my heritage.

I'm excited that ecumenical-type meetings might be able to keep beautiful, uplifting architecture from being torn down!   Think of all the work that went into these buildings, the architects, the stone-cutters.    The work of the writers whose poetry gets read,  the musicians whose life's purpose was to write or play songs that uplift.   The body of work here is amazing.

"What a piece of work is a man!    How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty!   In form and moving how express and admirable!   In action how like an Angel, in apprehension how like a God!     The beauty of the world, the paragon of animals."    -to quote Shakespeare

Babies not feeling?

Not remembering is not same as not feeling.  Friend in sign language class taught her daughter signs from day one.  Brain is developed enough in the womb for language.  Speech comes later because throat and mouth need to develop first.  Other languages come earlier.  Charlie's first sign was food.  She learned it in her first minute on Mom's belly.  She signed it herself that day.  Second sign was more.  By the time Charlie was 7 months old she had 70 signs and signed in sentences.  Mom said she never cried.  She signed.  She got what she needed when she needed it with zero frustration that the typical misunderstood babies feel.

Old enough to remember being told babies and animals have no emotions and can not feel pain.  Feels like that was a hold over from Jesuit cultures during the Inquisition and various Reductions.  Our ability to feel pain, pleasure and our memories are the basis of our learning.  How well we understand and work with that concept determines how smart and wise we are.

As to questioning His purpose and intent, good luck with that.  No sane person will try to convince me of anything He intended.  While I like the idea of religions and the intent behind religions I have zero patience for the evangelism of religions.  I have zero criticism for those who have faith in spite of AND because of their suffering.  I have zero time for those who would argue with me about my faith in times of duress.

And for sure, the Jesuit Order's past and current crimes (especially as they are so well hidden) are case in point for the evil take on religion.  These corruptions of faith are endemic in all faiths.  Also true of all governments.  The evidence is so uniform in every organization in all of history.  The sole purpose of any of these organizations is to make life better for their members.  When this does not happen it is ineptitude or bad faith actors.  Either way, leaders fail.  If memory serves He gave zero instructions to form a church or temple or mosque.  Or any form of book to reference and rule by for that matter.

What is most ironic for me now is seeing criticisms of religion by anti religious folk calling themselves atheists and agnostics.  Were they serious about their beliefs or lack there of, they would keep mum.  Their arguments come off as a religion of their own.  The only think worse for me is the devil worshippers infiltrating all religions using bad faith to undermine and profit from the good things that religious organizations do get done.

Perhaps some scenarios He gives us are meant to confuse us enough to make us recognize the appropriate level of humility we need.

@joe2 I gave example of a baby because it was good argument to what @lil-chick said that the god is giving you a lesson or whatever when you are suffering or dying. But now I know no matter what you say they always come up with some ridiculous argument that is not supported aby literally anything, but hey they believe in something that doesn't exist so what I was even expecting right.. Just pointless debate.

As I said before I don't care what people think or believe in as long as they don't push it on others. I was even living with muslim couple months who was praying daily. Had zero issues with him. Nice, funny kid. You wouldn't know that he is a muslim if you didn't saw him praying at home..

Unfortunately that is not the case for most religious people or vegans for example hehe.

Also what is clear is that for example people from this forum who believe in god and suport this ideology don't realize that if "real christians" came to power and they would have to live according totheir rules. They would very fast gladly rather say that their are atheists and that they don't want to live under proper christian rules. Which is ridiculous to me. That like I said before you are just choosing what you like from that religion and what you don't like you ignore.

I don't think god would be happy with behavior like that LOL...

@jiri, you accused me of not reading your words properly...and I keep repeating, 3 times now, that my particular idea is that YOU choose your challenges, not God.

My ideas are my own and I don't think they fit into any known religion, the ideas help me, I only offer them in that spirit.    When stressed I might pop out with a Catholic prayer, but that is my upbringing.    I don't feel Catholic.    I go to Christmas mass with my family (and love that tradition) and we hold things like funerals in that church.

Yesterday, after all this religion-thought, I was reading about Buddhism and I have to say I'm not really into it.    I don't think sitting under a tree is how you get enlightened.   I think living is how you get enlightened.   (over and over again, in my opinion)    And naming his kid "hindrance"!    gosh how mean is that?    Yah lets leave your pregnant wife and go sit under a tree and say OM for 6 or 7 years.

(since we are bashing religion, why not bash them all? LOL)

Weird but it sounds like "you are wrong I am right" while I am agreeing with you.

My comment was that pretense that a baby does not feel because he may or may not remember defines insane mind control type programming.

As to whether or not a Deity exists and or is good or not good based on whether or not He permits and or causes suffering,........... requires a certain lack of humility on our part given our diminutive position in the larger scheme of life.  Am I going to feel bad when I walk across the street, crush an ant that I did not see?  Is the ant's family going into philosophic fits over whether or not I exist or am evil or good?

To think that we are capable of comprehending the life, the universe and everything any more than the imprisoned audience in Plato's Cave is the height of arrogance.  Sure maybe we figure a way out of the cave.  Maybe we realize vA is a poison.  That only gets us out into another larger not comprehended yet cave.  To argue about who built the cave, what Their intent was and whether or not They are evil or good or whatever is bananas.

There are too many factors beyond our appreciable context and probably always will be.

Old farmer's son broke his leg falling off horse.  Neighbor sympathized.  Said oh that is bad luck.  Farmer said maybe.  Army rolled through took farmer's horse and left his son since his leg was broken.  Neighbor sympathized.  Said oh that is good luck.  Farmer said maybe.  Farmer grew less food for lack of horse......................  Throughout that infinite story, farmer's neighbor keeps pretending to know what is going on and how it will turn out.  Farmer keeps saying "maybe" because he knows that he does not know.

We do not know.  It is beyond our ken to know what possible good comes out of the worst catastrophes - or out of the best possible imagine scenarios.  Grant sure did not think he would be in better shape at 64 than at 50.  A few of us have similar experience.  If I learned anything I learned that I do not know what I do not know and it always turns out that I did not know way way way way more than I ever thought I knew.

And yeh, giving examples of Christian religions being any better to live under than other religions, it is all the same.  It always comes down to factions fighting it out and oppressing each other.  The closer related the two religions, the worse the fighting and genocides.  Protestants and Catholics.  Protestants and other Protestants.  Shia and Sunni.  Variations on Buddhism, Hinduism,.......  And then there are the branching off of faiths as Judaism to Christianity to Islam,........   Have even seen similar fierce infighting among variations on atheism.

Might be better for us all to consider this guy's attitude.  His silence is deafening.

How else explain not only surviving what breaks most necks but to also succeed and prevail?
