Ketogenic diets

Has anyone tried doing a ketogenic diet (atkins/lchf/carnivore etc) since starting a low VA diet? Or do you have any other experience that relates to ketosis and VA toxicity? I wonder if the ketogenic state could be protective against the inflammation caused by VA, or if it could make us more resistant to the negative effects of VA, or help us detox it more effectively. It wouldn't be hard to make a low VA ketogenic diet.

Seems like user @peachy didn't experience some of the negative effects of VA while on a ketogenic diet, but he/she hasn't posted in a while, hopefully he/she can come back and clarify the experience and what was eaten.

I think the whole purpose of lower VA is to reduce inflammation, it could do the trick for you without you ever having to go the keto route.

I tried ultra low carb before and didn't find it helped one bit with my inflammation (such as my rosacea)

I've experimented with low VA for quite some time now. It's very helpful in terms of inflammation but unfortunately most carb foods give me intestinal problems (and more). Reading about various people with autoimmune problems get better on keto got me thinking that maybe it makes people more able to handle VA, and that thread I linked sure made it sound like that. Could I ask you what you were eating during the ultra low carb diet, how long you did it, and what was your experience like?

Gosh I really don't remember the details too closely.  I was low carb for a longer time, and ultra low carb for a shorter time.  The ultra low carb really messed up my female hormones.  I stopped mensing for several months, blew an ovarian cyst and bled out for 2 weeks.    That convinced me I needed carbs to be well.

I don't do much sugar, it doesn't agree.  But I do all the other white carbs--as square meals with fats, proteins, veg, etc.

I've always had too many free eggs at my disposal, and was probably doing cod liver oil back then too!  And hubs insists he LIKES vegetables (ew)  So, no surprise that low carb didn't help me!

I did at one time put some effort into gut fixing.  I'm considering trying to modify my gut now to accept beans better.  Perhaps I'm going to start with tiny amounts of beans daily and see if I can work my flora up into accepting them.
