Quote from lil chick on August 24, 2020, 6:16 amThis is more about my husband than me. Just FYI, we're only on a moderate, lower VA diet. Much lower than we were eating, but not Grant-like.
Hubs hasn't been to the eye doc to get glasses since before beginning (about 16 months ago). Eye doc said his eyes got slightly stronger but was baffled by this: he said his astigmatism "rotated".
I have stated here that hubs face seems quite different to me, (has lost weight in face, IMO) and I would wonder if the pressures on his eyeballs (which probably cause astigmatism in the first place) have also changed.
Hubs has had (and continues to occasionally have) occasional (detox?) headaches.

I wonder if you will reach a time when you will level-off on the need of it? Sometimes I think we could be related when I look at your picture, it reminds me of myself a bit, when younger. It really makes me think about the genetics of all of this.
I wonder that, too!
I can totally see the resemblance. 🙂 What is your heritage? I’m mostly Dutch (Mennonite), with some English/Scottish/Irish from my maternal Grandmother (whom I am similar to in in temperament), and a pinch or Nordic, as far as I know. I’m also very tall. Aren’t you on the taller side also? Forgive me if I have miss-remembered.
Have you ever come across the William Bates Method of eyesight recovery? I was into it long ago, but could never relax enough to practice the techniques at that time lol.

Quote from lil chick on August 24, 2020, 10:25 amHi @Puddleduck! I posted a younger photo of me back when I wrote that, but ended up taking it away (LOL) I'm french/german by ancestor charts, although we come up with British Isle as well on the 23 and me. Your features look rounded and coloring looks light which I think is what made me think of the resemblance. I'm truly a lil chick in real life, short... However, I resemble my dad and he's tallish.
I once tried the "see clearly method" which I THINK was based on the Bate's method. But I didn't stick with it. My eye doc tried to scare me away from it.

Quote from puddleduck on August 24, 2020, 11:13 amOh of course, I’m so spacey sometimes/always lol (and I wonder who it was on the forum who was who also tall, or if I imagined it)... 😆 Sorry @lil-chick!
Anyhoo, I think the dutch are genetically french/germanic in the first place, so perhaps we are quite similar in that respect, at least. Haha, well I completely missed seeing the disappeared photo, but from the other photos you posted I can imagine. 🙂
Speaking of photos of our younger selves, the other day my sister sent me a photo of myself at between the ages of 13 and 14, and I noticed how symmetrical my face was then. I started cod liver oil at age 15, and it made me wonder if that is part of the reason it isn’t symmetrical any longer (I have one eye that is “bigger” than the other, and subtle other increases in width in one side of my face).
Your eyes look quite symmetrical compared to mine, but in an earlier post you mentioned your face isn’t symmetrical either.

Quote from lil chick on August 24, 2020, 1:50 pmYes, looking back I do think my face is more symmetrical in the olden days, and my teeth look straighter too. And my lips "fit" across a big smile, which now feels somewhat uncomfortable, as if my lips have shrunk. My face is puffier vs when young, and I never really thought about it, interesting!
I think my eyes are looking more like one-another in pics lately, that was starting to concern me just before undertaking low VA.
But of course, the most obvious change from being young to now...is the skin tone. My father's skin tone completely changed with age too. I wonder if I will ever approach that old skin color.

Quote from lil chick on August 25, 2020, 7:21 amWhat are your food intuitions telling you about your zinc/copper balance?
I was thinking about the zinc/copper balance and @dino's thread about it, and @jiri's ideas about (and garret smith too) ideas about mineral balancing. @JAJ mentioned that there doesn't seem to be a blanket statement to make about VA and zinc/copper balance.
(I tend to put copper in the vegetable kingdom and zinc in the meat kingdom, for the sake of this post lets just simplify things by going with that.)
The relationship we (the VA-overloaded) have with food is pretty messed up in general, LOL. Some here have had troubles with being orthorexic and even anorexic--even (or is it especially?) children. We've seen some people here wanting to be vegan and/or suddenly not feeling good on meat. Others go off on carnivore tracks or talk about how they have always hated veggies.
Jiri's mineral- balancing-doc talked about "male" and "female" minerals and at first glance it seems like woo, but on second glance maybe there is something to it. He said that zinc is the testosterone mineral and that copper is the estrogen mineral. This could be part of why things get complicated.
My computer-mind got to thinking about a truth table of what people might be experiencing.
Maybe one of the mistakes we make is that we have these intuitions about what we need and our mind wants to turn them into DOGMAS. Maybe we need instead to think of any food intuition as TEMPORARY. Maybe this explains some of the web bloggers who have waffled between carnivore and vegan.
Well, here is an attempt at a truth table.
male high zinc, high copper... starts ignoring his veggies
female high zinc, high copper ... starts ignoring her meat
male high zinc, low copper - no desire to change
female high zinc, low copper - opposite! decides to be vegan
male low zinc, high copper - opposite! decides to be carnivore
female low zinc, high copper - no desire to change
male low zinc, low copper - adds more meat to diet
female low zinc, low copper - adds more veggies to diet

Quote from Jiří on August 27, 2020, 9:53 am@lil-chick people low in zinc have issues with low stomach acid and digesting meats. So they have aversion to eat meat. People with high copper are in somewhat exhausted state, because copper is strong stimulant(neurotoxin) and people like this crave sugar and high copper foods, because it gives them temporary boost of energy. The ultimate food for this is chocolate.. So your attempt truth table is not correct.. Vegan toxic in copper and deficient in zinc wants more easy to digest fruits full of sugar and more cashews, chocolate etc.. full of copper and the last thing on his mind is meat.. Which needs highly acidic stomach.. When you start balancing minerals it is not pleasant at all. It is not like you start taking what you need and stop eating, taking what you don't need and you feel better. You feel much worse. Because your body was running for years or decades on stimulants and stress hormones. Once you stop all that and start taking more calming minerals you crash and that crash i opportunity for the body to rest and recover.. That is hard for most people realize that you will need x months to just do nothing. Just recharging batteries.. People have jobs, kids, dreams, things to do. So they are just gogogo more meds, more stimulants, more chocolate, more loud music, more madness until they find out that they have cancer or stroke or something else... Or you are more lucky and crash for example like me. That you can't do anything. You can't work, you can't do what you want, you can't even walk 15 minutes. So you are finally forced by the body to just do anything and learn what is going on.. For example now I am detoxing copper and I am so stimulated by that metal that I can't relax. I am cycling at least 2 hours a day. Working out. I can't stay still for 60 minutes and watch some TV show for example. What will happen once the copper will drop in the blood again. I will crash. There will be no more stimulation. I will be like zombie doing nothing.. That's how powerful ordinary copper in the body is.. 🙂 All this will be confirmed by blood test. Once my energy(fake energy) will drop to zero I will do copper in serum test.. I also started with iodine. So hopefully my TSH level will go down finally after decades of elevated numbers..

Quote from Sarabeth on August 30, 2020, 8:41 amThe discussion of facial symmetry reminds me of a book that my 16-year-old just discovered: "Crooked," by Forest Macready. He writes in a so-far-very-nuanced style, mostly focusing on metal metabolism, autism, etc., but really taking a birds-eye view of the ways that "crooked" faces show up EVERYwhere, on and off the spectrum, giving us yet another sign from the outside into the major epidemic of ill-health in our modern industrialized world. I think this author should be notified about vitamin A toxicity, and the ways that an impaired liver can really mess with our metals/brains...and maybe he can write another book! I've been meaning to contact him, but need to plan logistics on our upcoming cross-country move first!
