Fascinating! And alarming. I will not be buying the peanut butter made with palm oil I see on sale at the shop, that's for sure!

Thanks for sharing. Interesting stuff.

My last blood test (September 1, 2026) showed an INCREASE in vA level (56—>61 mcg/dl) even though I followed an even stricter total vA diet. I have been working out more, so maybe it is being released from fat. I dunno. For reference, I have tested the last 3-4 months of my low vA journey (going from 74—>59—>56—>61). I made the 61 red because even though it is my lab's reference range, it was an increase and 74 (my starting value) was over their reference range.

I am pretty sure at this rate, I might be toxic for quite some time. Sigh.

Hey @bruce,

Thanks for sharing the info. It’s not uncommon for people to see the serum retinol go up after starting a low vA diet.

I wrote about it in this blog post.

Much of the serum retinol is bound up in the RBP and is not immediately toxic. The mainstream science on it claims the RBP are a packaging protein needed to safely deliver vA to target cells.  I wrote about it in this post.

Either way, I think focusing on the long game and staying far, far away from any supplements, or “programs” claimed to promote “detox” is the best strategy.  Slow and steady wins here.

Thanks for those links and the words of wisdom. They are definitely being taken to heart. As mentioned in your blog entry, like many people, I was feeling better for the last two months or so, but this month has been … hard. My only solace is that I KNOW that if I continue a low (or even lowish) diet of vA, then it will have no choice but to come out of my body eventually.

It can't be recycled forever.

Just taking it slow.

I mentioned in another post awhile back, that my doctor thinks I fell out of a cuckoo's nest (or possibly from Mars), but symptoms are real even if blood tests don't show outright toxicity. I sometimes feel like I am alone from being either gaslit or just not taken seriously because "Your labs look fine."
