My eyes have been feeling dry and vision is blurry - VA deficiency?

PreviousPage 2 of 2

Yeah I take 500mg/day in the morning, not that difficult to get this amount through diet if you eat a lot of fruits or veggies, and I haven't seen any source saying this amount could be problematic as its well below the upper tolerable limit of 2000mg/day. Maybe experiment with different excipients or taking it with/without meals if you have stomach problems?

500mg might be overkill but if you're not eating a lot of cauliflower every day and experiencing heavy VA detox symptoms I think it makes sense to supplement at least a few hundred mg, as there is a big overlap between the symptoms of VA toxicity and Vit C deficiency.

Thanks, makes sense.

Yesterday I was reminded of this and I wonder if it would help move your lymphatic system along?  Quoting my log:

"I'm also reminded of the skin brushing technique that my naturophath recommended to me first time he saw me back a decade ago. It was said to move "lymph" along. You were supposed to gently brush your skin all over your body, in the direction of the heart."

This morning (as every morning) I really needed to clean out my eyes first thing.  I have to go over to the brightest window with a magifying mirror and distilled water and q-tips and look for things like cat hairs, eye lashes, dust specs and goop.  Afterwards I roll the eyes around.  I often have to repeat this a few times per day.

I'm seeing some subtle whitening of the eye and maybe some new (clear though) lashes.  Some blocked pores around the rim are shrinking.    One month in.

It might be important to have taurine in your diet. It's one of the most essential nutrients for eye health.

Healthy humans are able to synthesize a little taurine if the required nutrients are available but probably not enough if the diet is low on taurine.

Infos on taurine

https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/neuroscience/taurine

Taurine is exclusively found in meat and seafoods, especially in dark meats (like turkey legs), shellfish like oysters and scallops as well as squid.

Essential nutrients for eye health: adequate protein (collagen is best), B-Vitamins, Vitamin C, taurine, tiny amounts of DHA

Health sites will also mention retinol and carotenes, we reason this belief is based on flawed science.

But still we experiment on ourselves on our own risk

Wearing blue blocking glasses infront of LED devices and generally in the evening on long summer days might help to relieve stress on the eyes.

Thank you for the info. Maybe a sugar free Red Bull would help.... 😏.    I do have a bottle of taurine supplements I haven’t used cause of mixed user experiences.  May have to take he plunge although my eyes and overall feeling have improved since stopping ACV but I’m away on vacation so many factors have changed ...

Dry eyes, nose, ears, lips, mouth, gums, skin is some of what I'm here for.    Yes, my eyes are sensitive to light too.  Ears are sensitive to sound, gums are sensitive to spice, nose is sensitive to pollen, balance is sensitive to motion, skin is sensitive to sun (ugh!).  Like being an open wound or an alien in the environment.

I do think drinking enough water AND getting lots of fats helps.  I also think that closing your eyes and rolling them around in there is helpful and should be done as much as possible.  Booze dries me out further.  Dark glasses are necessary to have around especially during travel.

I'm also TRYING to see if short exposures to the sun is beneficial.  ie, maybe the reason we are so sun sensitive is because the sun kills the A?  I go out once a day in the bright sun at noon in a swim suit, lay down and turn like meat on a stick, do a bit of weeding so my eyes get a bit of light in them, sit there and look around.

Then I go back to my hovel and my dark glasses.  🙂

I looked back at photographs and I can see this all started for me about 15 years ago.  I can't expect that it's going to clear up over night.  I'm trying very hard not to get frustrated or obsessed and just be patient.  My naturopath used to say we are new every 7 years...

Edited to add:  I'm also experimenting with listening very carefully to what my body WANTS, tastes and mouth feels and macro nutrients etc.

I've seen a number of your posts and replies @lil-chick - and I have to say that I love the way you make light of all these problems and approach the issues and the whole experience with humour, while still adding value for others! 🙂

I know many of these posts are from some time back - I hope you are doing well if you happen to see this.

Awe thank you @corey

I wonder if @John is feeling better with his eyes, or if he really did decide his eyes were suffering from lack of VA?

I no longer have the temptation to think that VA helps eyes, but it is hard to erase all you have ever been told in the past.

Just yesterday I saw a commercial for an eye supplement that touted it's high amounts of 3 VA's (similar to the one I pictured below).   How many other things could be totally backwards that are foisted on us daily?

My eyes are better and better however, it certainly is NOT a quick progression!  It is more like the pace of glaciers down mountains...  The trend is toward better but there are little setbacks and they aren't perfect.

(As I always do, I just want to post script this with saying my diet is not zero VA)

Betatene Natural Mixed Carotenoids

Lot's of things have happened since this post.
My eyes get dry from a few hours after certain foods or supplements. I'm certain one of them is ACV.
More recent dry eyes events were after Artichoke supplements that I took to produce more bile, and one occassion before that was either from TUDCA or Triphala or the combination of the both.  Not sure if there is any vA connection to them or some sort of response to them, maybe candida/mold die off?

I am believing  more and more that my issues have to do with a compromised liver due to clogged bile ducts for one.  I've done 6 liver flushed and have flushed out enough stones the volume of my fist.  Noticed chemical sensitivity has improved, my lungs no longer burn from a whiff of car exhaust, cig smoke or other chemicals... Unfortunately only minor improvements to my EMF sensitivities as I'm still dealing with gut and digestion issues which I believe is highly likely due to candida/bacteria issues and more stones left to be removed.

I just took triphala this morning to try and get my bowels going normal again, it hasn't been good since my last liver flush, possibly more stones moving down and blocking bile ducts.  (After previous flushes, digestion and bowel movements have improved or went back to bad)    I'm already starting to feel something in my eyes, the start of dryness.

When I started low VA I had exactly the same symptoms arise. That was 7 months ago and now they're pretty much gone - no more dry eyes. I was very surprised when the symptoms turned up, along with red eye, because while Grant had mentioned something about this I embarked on the diet with healthy scepticism. And then simply reducing VA caused these symptoms - in a way it was like a sort of proof. I stuck it out and I am experiencing no vision side effects currently, if anything slight improvement in distance and focussing change speed. Eye floaters still present however!

I’ve not found a solution for eye floaters yet!

I also get red eye with vA toxicity. It also seems to be triggered by foods high in lutein, which is quite weird.

Hi John, triphala seems to be very high in vit A, my personnal experience with it has been a very negative one.
